Hi all, what the heck, here is my little experiment I have been running the past 3 weeks.

For those of you who know me and tried to help me before, I decided to run a little experiment with the last of my beans. After so many failed grows and pH problems, I refuse to be beat on this, or change growing mediums etc, I want to get on top of this!

My pH in Biobizz allmix has always been really low, causing so much yellowing of leaves, red stems and slow growth. I wasn't sure what was causing this so I decided to throw caution to the wind and set up an experiment;

3 pots-small,less than 1ltr
3 seeds-2 Short Stuff Auto Assassin, 1 WOS Sugar Mango Ryder
2 indoor-no tent, no filter/extraction, straight under the MS0006
1 outdoor, in greenhouse.
All Biobizz Allmix, added garden lime before I started.
Grow Northern MS0006

I am using straight tap water for the WOS SMR indoors, and the Assassin in the greenhouse, not stood or pH'd or anything-just straight tap water. The second Assassin is indoors and I'm using shop bought spring water.

Very interesting results so far!

Both SMR and AA indoors sprouted ok, have shown good growth. The AA (spring water) is much taller and seems ahead of the SMR (tap water), the AA outside is very much behind- taller, stretchier (is that a word?) but still looking ok. All plants are around 3 weeks old. Hit all 3 with a dose of Epsom salts last week, apart from that foliar spray its just been plain water so far.

I'm trying to grow organically, as I do with all the fruit/veg I grow. It seems to me that the lime has worked well to stablize the pH of the Allmix. I think I added a little too much though, I added a tablespoon and a half to 6ltrs of soil! OOOOOOPPPPS, far too much, soil pH is about 7.2, but it's doing ok so far. I expect it to come down when I start feeding (if I need to).
The interesting thing is what I believe to be happening is the SMR that's being fed with tap water is doing well, but the microherd is struggling with the shit in the tap water. The AA however with spring water seemed to be doing better, but suddenly the SMR is having a spurt and is catching up!

Next water will contain some molasses and see how we go from there. It's starting to "hum" a little bit in my room now, I don't care to be honest, when and if it gets too much I'll put my tent and c.filter back up and start all that again. For now though, my room smells nice lol, plants look healthy and I'm happy with that. This is an experiment, I'm not (clearly) looking for yeild, just to get my shit sorted.

Peace.

What are you using to test your soil ph? Are you checking the run-off or the actual soil? I want to know where mine is sitting as well.

I think your grow is looking good!

Hey man, I use a digital pH meter to check the run-off, water etc. I don't like getting very much run-off at all because I'm wary of flushing out the good stuff in the compost. I check my water pH before I water, then the tiny bit of run off I get (I water once, then an hour later-as per The Rev) and work out the difference. My pH was always low 5's and now its low 7's lol, I'll get somewhere inbetween soon damn it!

Man I'm so lazy lol, I was going to spend a little coin on a good soil ph tester to find out. I read about a good one on here a week or so ago but... I forgot who makes it haha, stoner moments are frequent in my world.

I hear ya, my problem is that I can't stand to do something 50% hehe, I get anxious because I'm a perfectionist-lucky I'm trying to grow meds, it's a catch 22 right now, I feel good about this one though, reading the plants better and backing off haha. got a link to your grow brother?

Hello all, end of week three I think.

What I'm trying to figure out with the experiment today is; both plants are the same in every way. The one exception being the plant on left-SMR, has tap water. The AA-bottled spring. So why is the SMR behind the AA, but looking as- if not more, healthy?
I expected the chlorine and other stuff in the tap water to kill the herd in the soil and give me lockout, but not happeningn (yet). I think I only need to water once a week at this rate.

The lime in Allmix is def where it's at for me from now on, I'm not going to powder it up either. Going to use as it comes out the box, almost like perlite-de-lux.

Hope this isn't breaking any forum rules, but thought I would share some pics of my greenhouse and all my lush food that I will be enjoying in the not too distant future..

Needed a water after todays heat..
