Put my auto in jars after 5 days at 40-50%rh at around 60-70degrees. Hygrometer read 49% been slowing climbing up to 52% a day later. So my question is....is there a reason to burp the jars at such a low rh to begin with. If so how long....

If you accept that curing is largely a biological process, involving microbes, fermentation, enzymes (from microbes and dead cells), etc., then 'Yes' burping or exchanging air in the container is desired periodically to refresh oxygen levels. This will better promote aerobic (O2-metabolizing) microbial growth. Also, exposure to air reinoculates the weed with airborne bacteria and fungi (which I'd guess are more involved with curing compared to bacteria).

:headbang: Just want to add this as the result of the process you described Bil.

I notice an improvement in taste, odor, and smoothness when burping regularly for the first couple weeks and monthly after that. Keeping the jars around 60% is my preference. I use Boveda 62% packs in the jars.

Right i get what ur saying, but thats more based off if ur rh is in the cure zone. Im sitting 52% right when i placed them in jars. So the cure has passed if understand correctly...so is there any reason to burp the jars if the rh is already low and the buds are really dry. 1st grow just trying to understand if its necessary now with my circumstances

The "cure" hasnt passed. Curing takes weeks, sometimes months (personal preference). The cure is not based on hitting a certain humidity percent.. so while your jar is in the 50% rh range, the buds are still curing. The purpose of burping is to exchange fresh air in the jar. While the jar is sealed, the buds are releasing gasses and evaporating water (thus the rise in rh).. "Burping" releases those gasses from the jar, replacing them with fresh air, allowing the process to continue. I would personally burp once a day until the rh stabilizes, and the smell is as pungent as possible. This could take weeks, sometimes months.

Ok got it, thanks for clarification

Keep in mind, it may take months, years and may be even impossible to get rid of retained moisture from 'dried' and 'cured' buds. There is surely some water blocked from evaporating from damaged dead plant cells and organelles; bound-up with cell wall and and other cellulose fibrils; remaining deep within tissues, including buds; etc. Keep in mind, even buds at what we call 40% or even lower relative humidity still contain/retain a good amount of water, even it if doesn't readilly evaporate; obviously enough for microbial activity, including 'curing,' to continue.

Lot of information in this post...just boils down to ....always count on some burping. Don't ya love sniffin the jar!
In my years of drying/curing weed, I've kept some of the better nuggs....most of the improvements are in the combusting as it gets smoother and less harsh....vaping reveals more taste and potency.
When I over dry, I rehydrate with a lemon peel or something to about 70rh...then start again.
No idea if it helps anything but I like messing with my stuff....
