Indoor Northern Lights Autofem (Nirvana) - Grow Journal

To avoid using 'city water' I buy RO/distilled water from the store at prices between $.25 and $1 a gallon ... can be used either w/ a little cal-mag or mixed 50/50 w/ spring water from either the store or a well ... my last three plant grow (NL) used about 10 gals total .... nice work w/ that plant ...

I now know exactly what mine will look like now....good stuff bro. Hopefully ill have 4 that size.

latest pics - she is 9 1/2 weeks old.

I have been away so she had to wait an extra day for watering so is super dry on the pics - it was her plain water feed time anyway, so she took 6 liters. I plain water feed every 3-4 feeds or once a week - thought it important to clear the salt build up especially now that I am using chemicals.

normally I would start flushing around week 10, but she doesn't appear to have an amber pistol in sight; so the plan is to give her to week 11 then plain water flush for two weeks; I have to harvest no later than 12th June so she is cutting it fine.

fingers crossed for you kush, and in theory she should be much bigger if I had not had those issues with her for six weeks.

looks yummy!
how big is the airpot and the cabine?

cheers, lb

thanks lowbudge.

it is a 15 liter airpot - did you want its dimensions? also not sure what a cabine is, so I will scatter gun some stats...

The grow area is about 1.5m * 60cm (w) & 60cm (d), however the top 50cm is used up by the fan and cf, then the light hood is about 15cm so I probably only have about 80cm growing height. There is 370w's of cfl in there, a 250wcfl from the hood and four 30w cfl's around the sides; I know this is massive overkill but rather waste electric on lights than heaters.

maaan thats a lot of electricity...
a single 90W LED panel would provide same PAR I think.
a heating system with about 90W and a thermostat would bring it to a total of 180, if its too cold. (if not, it will stay 90ish)

dont know if you can effort a led panel, but wasting that much of electricity doesnt seem cheap to me^^

anyways, your lady looks awesome, never thought cfl would be able to do some like this :D

best of luck, lb

all good points; unfortunately these are the issues by which I am constrained

  • the box is in the garage, which as you know for 9 months of the year the UK is rather cold; hence intake air is usually below 10c, and 0c for many months of the year

  • it is a semi-stealth, with the most important stealth feature being smell, so I have to have an exhaust fan and cf running constantly

  • in the winter I was running a 125w cfl and found I had to have 120w of tube heaters running full time without the fan running, with the fan I had to put in the 250w cfl

  • HPS and LED grow lights have a minimum height from plant of 12" - that would leave me with only 2ft of plant height room and making the box higher would require more heating.

  • I am trying to maximise my yield so I only grow once or twice a year - this time I was aiming for 3oz, which would have been three of my old grows with 125w (so 125*3 == 375) which means in effect I am using the same electric per weight

however your suggestion is a good one and was originally my plan, I was going to buy the basic grow northern LED panel and put heaters in... I asked about and found that the LED's are super heat efficient and wouldnt keep the grow area as warm as an equivalent CFL. The rest of the above I discovered through trial and error which you couldn't of known.

up until a few weeks ago the lower lights were for warmth, now they are purely there to try and increase yield, but yeah, £25 worth of electricity extra a month does hurt :/ - I may put a smaller box inside this one and grow micro next.

my LED's are somethin like 10-15cm above headbuds ;)
maybe someday there will be a mix like 90W LED and 2-3 CFL's? ;)

cheers, lb
