OK. Twice I've come across advice suggesting/recommending watering (in coco) with plain water every other time. One of the sites was growweedeasy.com. Day 27 of my grow I suffered a lite 'nute-burn'. Immediately raised the lamps and flushed with FloraKleen®. Mixed new nutes at a slightly lower EC. Yellowing continued slightly. Flushed the girl with plain PH'ed water. What can I expect? As this is my first grow, first nute-burn, how should I approach this age-old prollem? Currently at day 31 and have been noticing more yellowing leaf tips on new growth. Help? Thanx!

Hey egg, I just went through your journal and looked at day 25 and day 28. I didn't see any sign of nutrient burn at all. Day 28 was a little difficult to see because of the lighting but there didn't appear to be any. The only reason I am pointing this out is maybe the yellowing you are seeing that I can't find is Mag deficiency. Especially if it is spreading.
To answer your question though, coco holds lots of water. I can't remember the exact number but it is something like 8-10 times it weight in water. That means it holds that much nutrient solution as well. I haven't grown coco personally but I would think it would take a few flushings to exchange the nutrient water in the coco for the plain water.

My nute schcedule REDUCED the Cal/Mag for week four. ...and as coco has Cal/Mag issues...I think you have put your fanger on it. thanx. I'll go back to full strength cal/mag and see if it makes a difference. I was looking for 'changes' in behavior...that's one of 'em!

From what I can glean from my books etc, Mag deficiency. thanx again. The more fires I can put out on my first grow, the better. I'll have a much broader knowledge arsenal. But if not...I've always got AyeFore and a cast of thousands at my beck and call. Isn't this internet just the SHIT? I googled 'old Fart' and a picture of YOU came up! A4 :tiphat:-- all I saw was some slight yellowing at the very tips,... my call was mild, early nute burn, if anything,... I saw nothing to indicate Mg defc. myself,... looking at the pics at the LHT, it's about the same,...the is a normal light pic too, that shows the tips well,... :dunno: whatcha think?

Cal/mag issues often appear around week three or four ,coco holds phosphorus well but only holds a small amount of Calcium.
I feed with every watering but I also add 25% perlite in my mix {using Canna Proffesional Plus coco} this gives me a nice airy mix and when I feed i allow for 30% run of, which I then get rid of with a wet/dry vacuum.
I start with an EC of 0.8 over the natural EC of the water I use and increase as the plants can take more nutes.
I keep ph in the 5.8 - 6.0 allowing it to drift a little up and down,so to make all the nutrient available to the plants.
Try to follow the advice with your nutes to what strength to feed at various stages of growth and it is very useful to have a EC meter too.
I use LED and plants grown under LED often have a higher uptake of Cla/Mag so I use it through out the grow and don't get any problems or Cal/Mag defficiencies
I use Epsome Salts for my Mag and I got hard water so plenty of calcium in there, you can use epsome salts as a foliar spray if you do get a Mag Def.
For watering in I use 1 Tablespoon of epsome salts to 1 gallon of water {4.5 Liters} dissolve the Epsome salts in a little warm water to help dissolve the crystals and then top up with water.
1 Teaspoon Epsome salts to a liter of water, first put the teaspoon of Epsome Salts in to a little warm water to help dissolve the crystals and then top up to a Liter. Use a misting bottle and spray on to the foliage. Avoid any mist getting on to hot HID's but apart from that you should be good.
