TD update

Alright, about time I do another one of these. She's is a day over 3 weeks (22 days) old. Have cut down on the water and gave her a dose of sea green this week. As I have never grown one of these DP giants before, I don't know what to expect so I don't know if she is little or small for her age, please feel free to chime in and let me know what you think. Internodal spacing is at about an inch apart. Without further adieu....

The Cure

So I am taking another big risk by curing early again (last time I got mold), but I am convinced if I dry it slower and cure it earlier, I will not only get a better smoke, but get better aromas too.

I put in 2 2-way humidity packs (humidipak 62). They claim to keep the RH at 62% and all my buddies who do commercial grows swear by 'um. I was told to wait for about a week before adding them, but that's what I did last time and got mold, so this time I'm adding them right from the gate.

16 ounce wide-mouth 'ball' brand Masson jars (might be 32 ounce, can't remember, but I believe they are 16 ounce... I'll check later.)

Incase anyone is interested; they are called "Humidipak Boveda" and they apparently give you "A perfect cure, every time." I have used them with success before, but I found that I didn't get the aroma that I was promised, better than usual, but I want the aroma that I keep hearing about. I should note that it was definitely way better than if I didn't use them at all, just not as good as my friends hyped them up as.

Okay, so my buddies were totally right.... The humidipak made my bugs really really moist, even tho I left the top off all night long. So word of advice, if you use the humidipaks, wait until after the first week or so of curing. I was hoping that it would absorb the moisture from the nugs, but it looks like it isn't really '2-way' at all.

ive never heard of these or used them for that fact but one little bit of advise i can give is make sure that you dry them good and "proper" before ever putting them in the jars...dont rush or take short cuts on this!!! after all your time work and money i would hate to see you waste it due to mold:no:

Now there's lots of debate as far as how long to dry for. For the most part, this rule of thumb seems to work: for every 10% in Relative Humidity (RH%) in your drying area add 1 day then add 1 more day to that total. For example, my drying area's RH% is usually about 30% so according to the "formula", dry for 3 full days (1 day for each 10%) plus 1 additional day for a total of 4 full days. Now if your RH% fluctuates high, you might need to add an additional day. This formula has worked well for me just about everywhere in the world except in those places where it's very humid (talking like 90%+ RH), such as South Pacific islands and the Northwestern United States (Seattle, etc...). Preferably you have a drying closet or box where you can regulate the humidity. Copy an pasted, SGA. This one is going in my notes! That's exactly the detailed instructional I have been looking for. I poured out all my nugs into a glass dish and will give them a couple more days to dry. My RH is around 30% as well, I've already dried for 2 days, so I'll tac on an extra 2 days. Much obliged, Sir.
