Hey everyone, i am new to growing and i know this is a auto grow site but if someone give me some information on my regular indoor plants it would be fantastic.

Brown spots appearing on plant and spreading.

My plants are currently under one 130w 6400k Light (large) I assumed this would be enough for now considering they are still tiny. 16 hours on 8 hours off.
I have a small fan to blow cool air on my plants and i usually water them every 2 days.

The soil is a mixture of just normal potting mix, compost soil from my back yard and water crystals. Roughly 4 part compost 1 part potting and just a handful of water crystals. (compost consists of mainly old veg n fruit)
If i can provide any more information please ask i am desperate this is my first grow so i have no experience what so ever.|

looks like your soil may be too hot... Do you know the temp or RH? How old are the plants?

The foil you have used in your grow room/box isnt advised, it can cause hot spots on your plants...

Welcome to AFN anyhow...:smokebuds:

They are not dying but they are not perfectly healthy either, as Dominass says it looks like nutrient burn, try flushing them, and again, that foil is a bad idea, mirrors eat light, they dont reflect much but any little crease in it can concentrate the light, either use the other side of the foil which is much better or paint your surfaces flat white which is much better.
Give us more info too, strain, temperatures, water PH etc, you dont need worry so much yet but if we cant get to the bottom of it soon you could lose them.

Hi Elemental

I would probably guess at the soil too, but as some others have mentions, we need a few more details.

What is the temperature in there?
Do you have extraction for air exchange?
Are you feeding any nutrients yet?
Do you have a pH meter?

I would guess the problem is either heat, PH, or nute burn from the soil.
It's not the end of the world - a photoperiod plant can recover :)

:High 5:

gooch is off line but we're mates and i can reply for him, we've kinda set his room up together, team work ya'll!!
anywhore i was thinking the soils to hot, but no he doesnt have a PH meter, but im sure he'll get on to one shortly! as for temps we live in a rather cold part of aus if we're lucky 20 degrees is a good day, i'd imagine it would be a little cool in the cupboard, whats the recommend temps for growing? i rigged up a PC fan to blow on the plants, the room is only (roughly) 50cm wide x 40cm deep and height is adjustable from 50cm to 140cm, so i thought an extraction fan shouldnt really be needed here its only a small grow, or should one be rigged up? no nutes are being feed currently just plain old water, plants are roughly 2-3 weeks old since being under 130w CFL light, BTW this isnt a serious grow these are photos, i've talked my friend here into growing autos so once this room is set up and can get these photo's off to a decent start before there moved outside, some lovely auto strains shall be brought in to grow, that said we still wanna get these photos off to a healthy start so they have no troubles out side, sooo i guess a flush would be a good start then fellas?

Hi Budson.

20c (68f) certainly shouldn't make your plants look like that. I would say a healthy range is between 70f - 85f

The PH meter is pretty important. I presume you're using tap water, and you probably already know this, but it's best left to stand for 24 hours to let the chlorine evaporate.
The soil nutes may be burning them.

Fresh air exchange is important in any cab, and although smell isnt a problem now - it should probably be considered if your grow is not completely private as cannabis will really smell in flower.

Do your pots have drainage?

It's looking like the soil mix and maybe PH to be fair. Without knowing the PH of your water in and water out of the pot, you can't work out your soil ph, so flushing would be just guessing really, and there's no guarentee it will fix your problem.

If you've got access to more seeds, and un-nuted soil or light mix soil, i would start them in that and see if it goes better. (but grab a ph pen as well)

Hope some of this helped
all the best
Blue ^_^

Okay, a few more things to add and to check on :smokebuds:

Do you have holes in the bottom of those containers? You need proper drainage for when you water, or else the water will sit stagnant at the bottom of the pot and promote mold and rot. Also, that potting soil looks like it could use some more perlite or an aggregate to use to promote healthier drainage. Remember those roots like their air; without some inert buffer in between the soil and can suffocate them and stunt or cause slow growth. I would avoid using those water absorbing crystals like the plague; I too bought some for my very first grow thinking they would be useful; but the problem is that they hold in moisture and you have no control over how much is absorbed and how much is released. The real killer comes when you start adding fertilizers; those crystals will absorb the ferts and release them out slowly. This is bad; it's effectively making "time released" soil that can decide to release it's "hot nutes" whenever it well pleases to. It's a good way to get a build up nutes, which in turn can cause pH problems, nute lockout, nute burn, etc. Just a heads up :stylez rasta smoke:

If you're using tap water; like Blue said; let it sit out. A lot of guys actually take aquarium pumps and bubble out their water; it helps to evaporate chlorine, fluorine, and other chemicals and minerals in your water supply.

How often are you watering?

You will also definitely want some air flow in there; the purpose of a blowing fan inside the tent is to help strengthen the stems and branches of the plants. A plant moving in "the wind" is using energy to try to bulk up it's main stalk. It's like going to the gym every day; you don't want lazy flabby plants. The air flow will also help move the leaves around which prevents stagnant or hot spots from lights from burning. Depending on the light (I'm referring to HPS in this case,) there's usually a "hot spot" underneath the lamp that is more concentrated than other areas the light effect.

Plants will stink; regardless of photo or auto. Might want to explore some odor control options sooner instead of later.

Check out the New Grower's Forum and read all of the stickies on there; then read them again. Autos or photos; the information is pure gold and it should help you guys get a more firm grip on what's happening with your plants and what they need to survive. Best of luck to you bro! :karma Cloud:

cheers guys, yes the pots have drainage holes, i'll also get him onto a PH meter i know how handy and life saving those babys can be, he just got the healthiest plant and re potted it in soil with out those water crystals and changed the mixture up a bit, really the best thing he can do with out a PH test right? and just see how shes going inn the morning, oh and the seeds are just bag seeds nothing special just ya random old seed, thanks for all the help guys, we'll look into an exhaust fan before those smelly flowers start popping up ( if they make it that far)
do those so called DIY carborn filters work? i've seen a few vids on them and just wondering if anyones actually chucked one together and used it?

If you go and edit the bad language from your post in introduction to your buddy elemental ... i'll tell you ;)
