Grow Mediums Popping my grow cherry

Thanks guys, they'll be in there homes tomorrow evening. Should I start using nutes or use phd ro water w calmag?

if your not going to add more lights IMO stick to 3 plants for a higher yield no point in wasting your time growing small plants it's too much work for small yields (1-1.5 oz dry) keep everything right and you should be able to grow some monsters again IMO...'budluck' to ya mate :wiz:

I have 2 250 watt lights, I'm goin for four, but I'll be happy with three plants. Due to a busy schedule they'll be put in there homes tomorrow. I still have to run and grab another mh light cuz they didnt ship me my extra set of bulbs, leaving me with one operating light atm...

Man what a busy couple of days! Unfortunatelyi dont have much good news. I went to my one garden center we have here in town and when I asked for a metal halide, all I got was a blank stare, no one knew what I was talking about and all of a sudden I'm one of those crazy people. Well having embarrassed myself once already I decided I'd go down to lowes and grab a mh bulb. Got home, slapped it in and guess what, nothing. I got a buzz noise and that's it, upon further inspection it's only compatible with m58 ballasts, wtf. Ok, so I threw in my hps bulb, waiting for my replacent to show in the mail and I got nothing from that bulb! I'm running a digi ballast and there not a single button or switch anywhere. So I unplugged that ballast and decided if try again tomorrow, knowing that a cool down may in fact help, but when I got home this evening to try again, I didn't even get a bzzz-ing noise from the bulb! Damn! Could I have blown my ballast, or received a bunk unit? I'm nervous to use my remaining mh bulb for fear that if that goes ill have no lights lol. I have a feeling this attempt to grow may not end so well.. But I have more seeds and I haven't given up. My 3 remaining seedlings are in there final home last night. Barely any roots have broke through the rockwool so I'm feeding them once in the morning and once at night. The air pump is running with enough water above the stone to provide humidity for the roots when they make it out of the cubes. Looks like I'll be submitting another order for a ballast while I try to figure out this damn ballast.

The nutes solution :
Ro water starts at 12ppm
Calmag to 132
Power plant veg tom332
Ph: 6.2

Well the hps just tried firing 5 minutes after I plugged it in, but didnt sustain. You know, a little spark and that's it.

all ballasts are made differently... you should look at the specs of the ballast you bought and it will tell you what is compatible with it. using any old bulb can fry your ballast ... can you list the ballast specs here or exactly what brand model ballast you have? also be aware mh ballasts and Hps ballasts are typically not switchable unless its made that way. if it is switchable it will have a switch for MH and one for HPS... hope this helps. give me some more info and I'll try to help you resolve it quickly

that right there could mean the bulb fried ... due to not the right voltage... fingers crossed it ain't the ballast!
