Grow Mediums Preparing for an Alien RDWC invasion...

Dear Dutch Passion,

I'd like to file a complaint. Clearly there is something terribly wrong with your genetics. They simply wont stop growing! Aren't autos supposed to little unyielding puny plants?
I'm on day 60 since seed, and the tallest plant is 1,80m from the ground. I simply cannot raise my lights any further, and this is totally unacceptable. I was away again wprking during the weekend, and was shocked to return to a slightly scorched plant.

against my will I was forced to super-crop the main shoot off her... only to bounce back to life under 12h (insane!!)

Despite feeling development was stunted a little bit due to my previous root issues, I still think the amount of budsites is unacceptable. Way too many of them!
Take a look for yourselves! I even took some during the "night" period to better show the foliage

I promise I did absolutely nothing since the last rez change. The aquatank keeps feeding the system and steadily maintaing levels that seem to be rock solid. I even went and calibrated another pH meter in fear I had faulty gear, but nothing to be said about Bluelab, right on the bulls-eye.

I will keep this grow going, but you really should ponder warning your potential customers about AutoUltimate's hyperactive growth!

Sincerely yours,

Groff
Alien Fleet Commander.

Lol bro you tent is packed! But all looking top! It might be because your got 4 big girls in there mate all fighting for space, so they stretch upwards

Nah, it's just how tall they grow in DWC, I grow in a 12' X 15' room with DP autos in DWC, the tall plants always end up roughly 6 feet above the top of the pots, and roughly 3-4 feet wide if you give them the space, 12 plants will completely fill my room, I can add more and they'll grow skinnier, but they're still hitting the lights before harvest either way. You could probably fill that tent with two plants if you let them grow to their full potential.

You've got some really nice looking plants going there, I'm curious as to whether the added root space will lead to more yield in the space. I would expect 2 plants in your tent with your system would yield in the neighborhood of 500 grams, assuming this strain is like their others.

A regular comedian no less! This has been epic -- a regular saga!!

Alien XL - Day 27

So again I was struck with root issues like I mentioned earlier. I started noticing some staining on December 3rd, I posted this picture

On december 23rd they were like this

and this was the worse of the lot. When I saw this my heart sank.

.

So on the first rez change I decided to try my luck and went ahead a dropped a fair amount of dish wash detergent and let it circulate (non ionic surfactant). I completely forgot to shut off the airpump so 5 minutes later I had a bubble bath all over the tent LOOOL... Sorry for not taking picture. I was not amused back then, but it was sure funny seeing foam start invading the tent through the netpots!!

I was sure I'd f*cked up. 200 to 300L later, changing water to get the soap out (I scrubbed the whole thing down too btw), everything was spotless. Rinsed the roots in the tub, reset EC and pH and fingers crossed. This was on day 17, december 17th coincidentally.

Now into Canna Aqua, total EC 1.1
tap water EC 0.25
Cal mag 0.5ml/L
Silicon 0.25ml/L
A&B 1ml/L
Rhizotonic 4ml/L
Cannazym 4ml/L

I double dosed with cannazym and rhizo and made an effort to set water temp to 17C, also lowered ambient temp to low 16c high 22c.
Today they look like this;

They actually look better in real life than in pictures, but new white growth all over makes me happy. When I was checking today I noticed something that also happened on the little Alien that might explain something. I think there may be a chemical reaction going with the top-hat grommets used to watertight the plumbing. Maybe silicon or pH buffers or something, dunno... There seems to be some gunk forming around it. Touching it makes the surrounding water go oily and fluffy gunk floating around. I think this may be recirculating and sticking to the roots making them go gunky

On the little Alien I distinctly remember cleaning it out a few times, and then it just went away. I thought it was the pythium thing, but looking back makes me wonder. If it was pythium I got away with way too easy, dont you think? I remember the grommets had some sort of powdery feel to them, probably some industrial finisher or something. I did not clean them out prior to use, like one would with anything hydro!

Unless I beat pythium twice using cannazym, which is not really plausible. New scrub down soon, not today 'cos I've got a bad cold going *cof *cof*...
Thinking of flipping them very soon, probably today. They're on their 5th internode already.

Hey Groff.
Try some Myco's out mate if you can spare the cash. I'm sure they will help with your problems.
But you go have to keep you water temps at around 18c or you'll kill them.
