Hi all,

So im setting up a tent and after stumbling across QB im hooked, but im a bit confused.

Im set on a 2x4x4 and want to grow 2 autos at a time with LST.

Ive been considering the kingbrite QB but not sure what i need in regards to boards and drivers, do i get one board at say 260 or get 2 x 96?

Do i keep them separate to space out or stick them on the same heatsink?

What qb do i actually need for the dankness?

Sorry for the ignorance but ive been looking for material online to study and conclude myself but i cant seem to find a guide as such to figure things out.

Peace

First, you need a taller tent.
Most LEDs require 0.5 ft between light and ceiling, and 1.5 ft from light to plants.
Buckets are around 1.5 ft tall.
Adding up all those numbers gives you room for 6 inch tall plants.
Even 6 ft is too short for hydro growers. Some of my hydro autos have gotten over 6 ft tall in spite of training, and outgrew a 9 ft tall tent.

I have 2 tents, one exactly like yours, but taller.
I just ordered this light https://growerslights.com/products/horticulture-lighting-group-320-watt-xw-quantum-board-led-kit-v2?utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=google&utm_campaign=Google Shopping&gclid=Cj0KCQjwhdTqBRDNARIsABsOl9_KRe2ZuQqdltoTK37otzodne9wtJn9rrNvKpIbk6kZrJgcW9DZQCgaAnnXEALw_wcB
That one might be overkill, and I almost got this one, which is a very good price:

My starter tent, which I’m still using, is a 3x2 and 4.5’ tall. I was warned by people to get a taller tent and I figured I could LST and it would be enough...

I should have listened. I am currently in the market for a 4x2 that is either 6 or 7’ tall. Like it was previously said, you lose vertical space from the hangers, the thickness of the light, and the pot. So you get pretty limited for space quite quickly. If you have the vertical space for a tent then use it, otherwise if your space is limited then a QB is a good option as they are quite low profile.

Here’s an example of what happened to me.

I ended up replacing my cheap light with a 135W HLG QB288 and was able to mount it nearly to the top of the tent to prevent further light damage to the plant.

Of course this was my only plant to explode to that size, but I’m still a beginner.

From what I've read the typical watt per sq. foot for LEDs is in the 30-40 range. So a 4x2 using that estimate would be a range of 240-320w.
Of course that's not a concrete rule and I'm sure a 230W panel in that tent could still grow some nice plants.
I'd recommend reading through the Quantum Board thread, lots of good info and knowledgeable/experienced people in there if you'd like to dig deeper.

25 to 30 watts per sq foot is plenty for autos, if your going to run photos too, 30 to 40w per sq foot.
