was turning a tote into a primary container. did a shit job cutting a circle into the side of it. cracked the tote. it is 15 or 20 gal tote. if i seal it up with some silicon caulk do you think it will hold water?

Better safe than sorry. Problem with hot glue is its easy to knock off usually. Butt... You could use the glue inside and silicon outside. Glue will seal it out and you get the best of both worlds

I don't think the silicone will hold? Use an aquarium safe formula if you try it. You might be able to "weld" it with a high temperature hot glue? Save all the grief and get a new one.

I think that you should get a new tote. Silicone is unlikely to stick, and you could end up with a big mess and/or a compromised grow. Not worth the risk in my opinion. Totes are cheap.

Better yet, get a heavy duty tote less likely to crack.

Rather than caulk, I've repaired water containers using Gorilla or other strong tape (not affected by water).

If you do use caulk or silicone goop, it would be stronger to lay plastic sheet or fabric over it or imbed it in it to add strength.

Otherwise, don't rely on any repair you do. Don't use the repaired container where leakage would cause a major problem.
