I just received an order that contains Dutch Passion's AutoMazar seeds. On the package is says “for best results keep these seeds refrigerated until use, between 4-8 C in their original sealed package.” I was not aware that cannabis seeds could endure cold temps for long periods without damage. Is it possible to freeze them with out damage also?

Freezing works for long term storage but will effect germ rate. Best temps for frige seeds are around 45F

Thanks guys, what is best for long term storage...cool/dry location at room temp or refrigerator?

Hello!

Well... I believe with Marijuana being an annual plant (I think as well as every other annuals; grown once a year). Marijuana in the wild drops the seeds to the ground and stay dormant during the colder times. Then, when the temperature rises, the seeds starts to come alive (mwahaha! It is alive!), then they start to germinate and start their growing process. However, these seeds that have been bred by breeders, probably might be better to be stored in cooler, dry temperatures. It is probably safe to store them either in a dark cool and dry place, or place them in the refrigerator in a sealed container. (If any of this is wrong, please correct me!)

If you are interested, there is a thread, which the amazing AFN family has posted how they store their seeds.

My method for storing, is that I keep the seeds in their original packaging they came in, then throw them into an Altoids can, then put the Alotoids can in another ziploc bag, then place them in the door side of the refrigerator.

I have posted a thread, if you are unsure, might help you with starting the seeds after they have been stored in the refrigerator. (The question I asked, might come out very confusing, but please read on. I hope it might clear up the confusion.)

I hope this information have helped you out. If not, then I apologise.

p.s. sorry for long post!

I receive loose seeds (not in a "breeder pack"). I put them in those little 2-dram "concentrate" jars sold at the local smoke shop. Little clear glass jars about 1" diameter x 1" tall, air-tight. I put some white rice in the jar, enough to cover the bottom of the jar. I believe that acts as a desiccant, absorbing moisture inside the jar. At least stabilizing the humidity in the jar. I put those inside a plastic food container (Zip-lock, Gladware, etc.). I put that inside a brown paper bag to block the light.

I think the idea is to keep the moisture low, the temperature from varying too much (thus the container inside container) and dark. I've had mine stored for over 6 months and they germinate fine.

Thanks guys, I learn something new every time I log on.

I had no idea I needed to refrigerate them... I chose the super stealth shipping method. I have had my 5x Auto fast & vast just sitting in my drawer for a few weeks, would this affect their germination?

I have a jar of seeds I have kept in a jar in my dresser drawer for over 18 months now just to see how long they will be viable and still get 100% germ rate. As long as your house stays fairly cool and the container they are in is airtight your seeds will be fine.
For best results you should store them in the fridge though.

I freeze seeds for my garden plants, thaw them just long enough to take a few out to start every year. Ive germinated seeds that are over a decade old just fine. Germ rates will decrease some eventually, but most of them will keep for years in a freezer. Just store in an airtight container and a silica gel pack to absorb excess moisture.
