Hello AFN!
I need help choosing a light

DO I CHOOSE 600WATT HPS
Setup - Phantom Digital Ballast, 600watt dimmable. HydroFarm RAPTOR 6 inch mega reflector. Digilux 600W super Bulb, or Hortilux 600 watt super Bulb. PRICE!=$437.95 with digilux $431.01 with hortilux

also do you think if I went this route, that the phantom 2 is better, its $230+ vs $169

OR!

1200watt, marsll 5 watt LED? PRICE $455.39 free shipp.
Or
1200 Watt VIPAR LED Price $472.68 free shipp.

Has anyone heard about the spectrum king? http://www.supergrowled.com/products/

this looks like an exceptional LED in my book, but its out of my price range.

Or suggest what you think will rock my new room! not trying to spend over $500 on the new light. SO I want a rock solid light that is gana give me top yield.

Let me know what you think, I will seriously consider it!
Thanks!

Thinking of going with the hps, would anyone recommend digilux over hortilux?

Was hoping to get people to talk about there lights and which ones they recommend/ have had the best experience with..

Hey dude how big is your grow space? Leds are more expensive upfront but will save you money on your electric bill so thats one thing to consider...ive seen people get good results with those lights you mentioned but i havent used them personally so i dont wanna comment to much on those..

As far as HPS thats what i use..i ordered my 600W hps from amazon for like less than $200. keep in mind they will raise temps more than leds..idk where you live so that could be good or bad depending on temps.

as far as digilux vs. hortiliux i think they are both good bulbs to use...to be honest i use a much cheaper bulb (apollo horticulture) than those with good reults so i think either of those would be just fine :Sharing One:

Thanks man I have a 5x8 space. I really want to do LED, but I just redid my entire room with insulation inside the plywood and its against a cement wall so now I think the HPS might be necessary to keep the temps up. I already have 1 led so I could use that as a supplement every other day.
I may have to find a way to keep the temps up during dark time. But as long as I'm doing autos there won't be much dark so it should be OK. I might turn my old HP's/led on and leave them running for a bit as a test to see where my temps go.

I got an apollo 10 with 90deg lenses and custom spectrum shipped for $350, You could probably get 2 of them for $600. Your plants will get a lot more 'usable' light from LED than from HPS, that is a big area tho, you would probably need 4 of them to light the whole thing adequately. If keeping temp up is an issue, I would get a small thermostaically controlled space heater and LED instead of getting HPS just for the extra heat.

I use digilux bulbs and and 1 Apollo 600 HPS 1 Apollo 400 MH I have a 5x8 space and Im saving pennies until next year for 4 LED's The Apollos do the job but its hot in my little room. FYI it cost be 65 bucks a month to run those bulbs 18 6 every month. I need 2k worth of LEDs. To yeild the same or more with HIDs..

Green Bastard you said you had 500. with that kinda cash i say go HID.. If you want those yields.. But at the end of the day you will want LEDs like me. But if you want to grow big you need to spend big cash on LEDs .

So this thread is a bust! 29 views no replies :(

In reply to is this thread bust the answer is no.

You will find that there are many lurkers and people who are interested in the same question you posed.

In my experience if you get 10% of the people viewing you post to reply your doing well.

So many people want the to see what answers you'll get and a smaller percentage will actually have something to say, just the way it goes bro.

I personally favor LED but that's my preference, LED makes it easier to control temps and are more efficient in converting power from the socket to usable light.

HID bulb which is 600W will draw 600W of power but the ballast will also use additional power on top of that, modern electronic ballast are more efficent than the old magnetic ballasts. I'll try to find some details.

When choosing an LED you'll want to find out what the actual draw is, the spectrum king aka SK450 uses 150 X3W LED's but actual draw is 250W this is how much light it produces.

The spectrum king is interesting because it uses mostly white LED's (100 LED's) and the remaing LED's are R,G,B (50LED's).

I have not used the sectrum king or the mars reflector.

The mars relector I have seen used in grows and results look good and people are happy with resullts.

I will keep looking for grow using the spectrum king, however i did find this from "how to grow marijuana.com"

Finally, we shall examine one of the latest entrants in the field, the Spectrum King fromSuperGrowLed.com. These technology-leading lamps use nothing but top bin white LED emitters from Bridgelux and Epistar on custom, high-output 45mm dies covering the full range of 420nm to 750nm making them a truly fully spectrum luminaire. These square chipsets focused by 90 degree lenses overcome the common problems of poor color mixing and color spotting (or banding) by putting out a more even pattern than those using discrete 3W and 5W unfocused monochromatic dies.

Just one of these 250W (actual draw) grow lights will match the growing power of a 500W HPS and will cover a 16 square foot are (4’ X 4’) in bloom and an even larger area (25 square feet) during veg. With an unmatched peak photon delivery of 1000μmol @ 12”, a lifespan of 12+ years or 60,000 hours and a five year warranty, it just might be time to put your HID grow lights up for auction.
How does the Spectrum King™ compare to the competition? Let’s take a look. Manufacturers such as BlackDog™ and Haight™ have been popular as a mid-level staples in the grow light market and have upgraded their lights over previous generations, but are still using last generation multiband technology. They both claim full spectrum lamps, but what we actually find is that they have output spikes in every band of color, but are not contiguous as with the Spectrum King™ (SK450). These spikes exaggerate light at some light frequencies while skipping others all together. As covered earlier, our sun has a smooth spectrum throughout – and this is what marijuana wants most for lush, healthy growth.

I have a vipar as one of my 3 LED's I use and I got to say I am very happy with it and would say they are good and the price is not bad either.

Why going a step backwards and bying hps when u can afford a top notch led??? I would defo go for the Led Unit!!!
