Lighting Replacing a 600w HPS with LED

Also 400w of good led is just what i would suggest to replace a 600whps in 4x4.

I did try to run 4 55w cobs in a 4x4 and noticed a big drop in yeild.
Bearing in mind that is 1/3rd the power.

Thats just my personal experience.. i know theres growers on here really smashing it with 1 55w cob per 2ft square

I will agree cobs and LEDs do take a slight learning curve when comparing to HPS. Nothing will beat a high powered lamp, an led will give you a better spectrum of light. Big yields with leds are possible, @Dabber and @bushmasterar15 among others are knocking it out of the park. @BigSm0 is a wealth of knowledge when talking lights.

QB 132s are also a very easy build since you don’t need any heat sink. Simple frame, wire and done.

I literally copied exactly what bigsmo did on my first grow and learned a lot. I can guarantee you can run one cob( I run Cree) over a FastBud GG4 and produce 4-5 oz per. I now push 100w per in last weeks and get 5-7. All plants will be different,
Which leads me to a question for the pros. Are there certain breeders that have been growing under LED longer so there seeds are more LED spectrum strong. Do we know under what conditions breeders have been selecting ideal plants to cultivate a strain ? Am I wrong in assuming a multigenerational strain from HPS selection would be different grown under full spectrum? Do the breeders share this information or does it not matter?

I would be looking at either a cob, boqrd or strip fixture.
Something that is efficient with a good spectrum and covers a 4x4 area nicely.
You will need a fixture that runs about 400w any more and your not saving much electricity costs and any less you will lose yeild.
In the uk are options are limited but there are some great led comanys.

Gn telos 10 is their biggest fixture at 300w and covers 1m2 in flower.
It costs 520 quid.

You could get a samsung board/stip kit made by diyleduk or boards from hlg uk as chronic mentioned above.

Viparspectra are ok but if i had a 500quid budget you can get a way better light than that.
I have two viperspec 450 there good for cheap lights

I built a HLG 600H kit that has more output than the HLG 550. It was right at $700usd which should be around your budget. It’s a dimmable fixture and I LOVE it! I run it in a 5x5 tent. It may be more than you actually need but with the dimmer you can turn it down and then, IF you ever decide to move to a larger tent, you still have enough light. It was a very easy build. I’ve done a assembly video that I need to finish editing; but it was super easy to do and only took about 1.5 hours. For a seed to flower light that gives you all you need along with the ability to scale up, I can’t imagine a better or more cost effective light.

The QB132 route is certainly a cheaper way to go but i’d still pick the HLG600H kit, personally. I like overkill and the ability to up-size IF it fits within your budget.

Good luck, mate!
