Why is my RH swing upwards during my dark period? WHen lights are on, RH is around 65 percent, lights go off, it swings up to 85 Percent. Could my 32 gallon trash can filled with water be causing this? it has a lid on it?

Hey bro...colder air cannot hold as much moisture which leads to elevated RH..additional heating and or increasing air circulation will help..."AFN smoke out"

It's normal for RH to go up when lights are off, mine goes up every time my lights are off also and I think it's because the lower temps cause the cooler air to hold more moisture.Just make sure you keep your circulating fan on all the time.

Duggy,I think one of us is wrong and its not me.Just kidding but you say cooler air can
t hold as much moisture than wouldn't the RH go down? I thinlk the cooler air is more dense and therefor contains more moisture bringing up the RH readings.I could be wrong so maybe some one else will comment.

Relative humidity (RH) (expressed as a percent) also measures water vapor, but RELATIVE to the temperature of the air. In other words, it is a measure of the actual amount of water vapor in the air compared to the total amount of vapor that can exist in the air at its current temperature. Warm air can possess more water vapor (moisture) than cold air, so with the same amount of absolute/specific humidity, air will have a HIGHER relative humidity if the air is cooler, and a LOWER relative humidity if the air is warmer.

Not to get too complicated but cold air is denser than warm air and it can hold less water vapor, hence RH goes up if the water vapor is present. Warm air is less dense and can hold more water vapor, hence lower RH because of rapid movement of water molecules and faster evaporation.

I think the cold air holds less moisture which makes the moisture more available as humidity...make it cool enough and condensation occurs.....:pimp:

e have to remember that there are only two ways of increasing the relative humidity: 1. Cooling the air so it becomes closer to the due point temperature
2. Adding water vapor to the air

Clearly i can't be running an RH of 85 percent during dark period right? this will cause mold, even thou i have a 16 inch osilating fan blowing on my plants. I have a window AC unit which is running in the room, should i try turning it off during the dark period?

Remove the trash can of water for sure bro. Whats your temps running during lights off?

68f when lights are off, 74f when lights are on. Thanks Dubv i will remove the trash can this weekend, since its filled with water at the moment, iam only on day 4 of flower so it should be fine untill saturday.
