Has NEVER failed me! Word! Also Spellbound, LEAVE THEM ALONE! Look do not touch! Its a rule that still a year later of growing I sometimes have a hard time adhering to. Mother nature always sorts things out... Honestly since Ive gone straight to soil, Id say Ive had a 95% germ rate 4% no germ = me playing and messing with rings... 1% genetics/seed. KISS (keep it simple and stupid) warm soil, bean in soil, moisture... It will sprout! also, Ive lost tons of seeds to root riot cubes and pete pellets.. reason, I was putting them way down far... With a root riot cube it just literally needs to be pointed side down and popped in, no pushing required....
The Pipe things... Ive been thinking of the same thing myself:
though not for watering reasonings but seems like a great experiment to try as the pipe will allow the tap root to grow longer (which autos love) give it a try! Im about to!!!

Its all good. Just sucks, but Ill get the hang of it. Yeah that pipe in the middle, thats what i was thinking, but taking it out to plant the seed. It just seems to make alot of sense if your using a hot soil.
I got what ya mean now! Sounds like a great idea! I was thinking more along the lines of giving the tap root more room to grow down. I see what you mean now with the hot soil and than removing pipe afterwards....
Just go straight to soil, if you got a top root on you seed then they were viable.
I'm an old gardener. Autos live a short life, so I want to minimise stress. I use a mild potting soil (not hot)
and fill the pot leaving a couple inches so I can add more (and don't have to worry about overflow).
I then make a cone shaped dent in the middle a few inches deep, and a few inches wide. Into that goes
a potting aoil that has no nutes. Wet that, put the seed in the middle, add a little more soil to cover it,
and then just a tiny bit of water to get that wet. Keep it warm, and it should sprout. No transplant stress.
Growing is like any relationship, give the girls what they want, and they will give you want you want.

Ya it probably would be better for me to go from soak to soil too but I am inpatient and like to see if it sprouted or not. I also will un cover them 2 or 3 times before they pop up to see how there doing. I'm one of those people who go in my grow room line 5 times a say and stare at my plants. My wife's like, they look the same as yesterday.

LOL My seeds always sprout, I have never killed a plant un covering them.
Back to the real subject here is that I dont blame Attitude for my failure. After all im new and just got to keep open-minded that this is nature where dealing with and you can only control it to a point. As for the pipe, i just think its got to help with the root getting a good start in hot soil, i.e. heavily fortified soils. With a seed starting column of soil going to the bottom of the vessel would help the root structure get a jump in life with-out hitting the hot soil to fast causing toxicity to the seedling. Less shock and stress is allways what you strive for. Rite?? Its not the beat all answer but just a thought.
Well got some results from my second try.
1st is a bag seed 2nd is a WhiteWidow from Dinafem
1st is a bag seed 2nd is a WhiteWidow from Dinafem8 days old and still alive. Wish they where autos.
