Self watering Tray2Grow experiment 👀

Without doubt the best grow journal I’ve ever had the pleasure of following (and I have followed quite a few 👀 ).
Outstanding growing, great yields.eyes:what?:

Question @PeaceLove&Buds ... if you had to choose between different autopot systems, which would be your go-to?

Easy2Grow Pot and tray or Tray2Grow? Reason I ask is that with the Easy2Grow the Aquavalve will water once the substrate is dry whereas Tray2Grow has nutes available 24/7.

Pots – plastic or fabric? – you prefer fabric – does size really matter?

Really good to see that higher EC at the start worked for you as well as the 24/0 light schedule

Looking forward to more.
All the best from South Africa.
Thank you very much for the kind words! As for choosing well that’s a tough one. They seem to perform exactly the same, you’re just filling a res but I’d say the advantage to the pot system would be spacing because the trays are only so long and if the plants are big they may be closer together than you’d prefer. The advantage to the trays would be not needing an air base or air dome and air pump as well as being able to start the system a couple weeks earlier. If I had to choose i guess id go with the trays, less parts and it’s easier to remove the plant. With the pots you have to disconnect the air pump before removing the plant.

When using the pot system it doesn’t matter if pots are plastic or fabric but the plastic ones will come out of the pots easier because the fabric swells a bit with the moisture and get a tight fit. With trays, fabric is the way to go for the best wicking. And I’ve found that plants will grow bigger in smaller pots with these systems. I have a few 5gal fabric pots left and am using them next grow but with only 2.5-3 gal of coco in them. I just saw a harvest 11oz from a 2 gallon pot on the tray so I won’t be using a shit ton of coco anymore.

I’m glad you enjoyed the grow! I’m about to start my next grow in a few days and will be journaling it here.

Exactly the answers to the questions I had. Genius dude thanks for documenting on this grow using this system. I'm putting down my trays next week, I have 6x3gal fabric wedding cheesecake ready to go in. I just bought a load more 3 gal fabric pots to run 70/30 coco/perlite I was in the shop for ages trying to decide on size and kept picturing your massive plants in the small pot. The guy in the shop was trying to make me buy 5 gal.

Ok here we go! After a week of serious thought I decided on dropping just two beans. I have plenty of bud in the fridge plus the one in the 3x3 and I’m following that plant with another. So I decided on Night Owl’s 91 Grapes and Speedrun’s Blappleberry Haze. Just dropped them, should sprout in a few days and as soon as they do I’ll start feeding every day for up to a week then they’re on the tray.

Frosted cherry o’s (also speedrun) day 55. Powerful fruit basket smell and has my favorite plant structure, stems and golf balls.

Thanks @WildBill ! Once again I encourage everyone to check out hydrobuddy.com if you have a pc. It allows to you to input your targets for npk along with whatever nutrients you’re using and it will give you a recipe you can use from seed to harvest. I haven’t been on there but a couple friends have really gotten into it and they say it’s a game changer. Here’s one example using the GH trio in coco with ro or really soft water, first here are the optimum targets for autoflowers

this is how much is needed of the GH trio and calimag to get there

Compare that to any GH feed schedules and you’ll probably see you’re underfeeding. You can change the nute amount to what you’re currently using to see where you’re at with the target numbers. With a higher ec like 2.2 from sprout you just have to up your DLI, easy enough worked for me. It’s a trip, you can plug in any nutrients on your shelf into the program, but nutes change from country to country so gotta be aware of that. Strains vary so some tweaking is inevitable and you can adjust things like calmag to get a little less early and then more late, but it’s a confident starting point which is great for new growers. I find it super interesting and hope you guys do too. This is key to big plants if that’s what you’re after. And buy speedrun seeds, they’re built for heavy feed and light.
