Hello 'Lighting' thread my name is True, Ive not been in here before.
Always polite to introduce yourself :tiphat:

Just a quick couple of questions on side lights
My last grow was monstrous! Dutch Passion AutoUltimate.
Im using 1000w E-Papillion adjustable digi lights. So far so very good with them.

Here's the thing, my plants grew so big so quick the lower branches soon got blocked out by the canopy of killer buds up top
I cut away lots and lots of lower side branches, a good 12 to 18 inches was taken away. So almost lolly pop type look if you get me.
I did this as I can not be arsed messing about with tiny buds when it comes to the final chop. It worked well and the yield was frightening at times.

I was left thinking about how strong the plants grew and how they wanted to bud everywhere.
Who am I to stop this?
Would some side lights help to develop these lower shaded branches?
What are you using for this job?

Im thinking about using some Maxibright T5 8 bulb 4ft long panels on the walls in my room.
I would love to hear your thoughts on this, what your using and what experiences you've had.

Thanks in advance :peace:

T5's would work great for side lights but the 8 bulb might be a little to much.maybe a six or four bulb would to the trick. Also they would have to hang around 12 to 14 inches from the plants to do any good.

Have you ever considered doing a SCROG or at the very least some LST? That will give all the lower stuff as good light coverage as the main colas, without the need for further lighting :)

Thanks dude.
Im not hanging the lights, there going on my wall.
They will be close enough to work so thats not an issue :)

No mate, I know nothing about scrog or lst - Not a sausage :)
Im really looking for the best results but with the least work. I think ive avoided looking in to those methods as seem like lots of work.

Im all ears though my friend :)

Just ordered some of the 8ft T5's as per my picture above.
My room is having a make over and planning on fitting half the room with these to see if there is any difference in results.

side lighting, especially with T5s, CFL, etc needs to be close to the plant to be effective. I doubt the gain would be worth the expense. LST is a much better way to go. And as you mentioned you don't want to have to wrk to get results, LST is still the way to go. Bend her over and tie her down. Takes all of 15 seconds. Pipelining is another, similar technique. The end results is you expose more bud sites to the high power light you already have!

T5's have an effective penetration range of about 1' anything more will result in larf. This is why you'll most often see T5 grown as lolipop, auto's, or SOG. What size room are you working with? If were talking like 5x5 step down to 600w up top (or keep 1000) and hang a 400w vertically at plant level .

These are the guides i used. Done properly it'll give you awesome yields :)

Hey there Little Creek thanks for the advice :)
Whats 'larf' ?

Ive got some pretty decent lights up top. E-Pappilon 1000w and Im really pleased with the results so far. See below for my last grow.
Im just thinking of hanging some Maxibright T5 panels on the walls. There going to be very close to my plants so hopefully will help things along.
Ive ordered enough to do half my room, so we can see if they make any difference or not.

I wanted a low power consuming light as pulling some watts with my e-pap's
