@PlantRoom The idea of Souse vide for cannabis is new and interesting to me, how do you use the method?
My quick thoughts:
- flower in sealed bag in water for decarbing without burning.
- tincture + cooking oil in sealed bag in water = infused oil? (creams too I wonder?)
It's a good method providing consistent potency and no smell, here's my process (I am now cheating using a new MB2 machine for the extraction nowadays, but the decarb method is the same, I've only made butter in the machine, not tried tincture yet). I've not made anything but tincture in the extraction stage using sous vide, in fact it was the mason tipping over that led me to buy the MB2, so much easier. I have also used the oven quick decarb and stove top water bath method for decarb and extraction but sous vide is nicer.
I use approx 10g bud + whatever trim to 100ml 190proof alcohol for tincture.
1. Chop bud/trim in a food processor until 1-3mm in size (size obtained from GWPharma paper on extraction, but they extract using CO2 and other methods), a grinder will do a good job also, it may not even need a grind as the Sous vide is low and slow.
Decarboxylation
2. Vaccuum seal ground bud in a bag
3. You need to find a way of weighing the bag down in the sous vide (the release of CO2 expands the bag), I am currently trying baking beads sealed in their own bag (easier to remove from bud) which is then sealed into the bud bag also. I've also used metal plates on top of the bag with a metal plate underneath providing a gap from the heating element.
4. For the sous vide itself any method with temp control will do, I'm a home brewer so I repurpose a Burco boiler with a home made temp controller but I am constantly tempted to buy a commercial unit to make the job a bit easier.
5. I sous vide at 96C for 1hr 45mins, this is from info I found on the web, I'll find the link one day!
6. Decarb is finished and bud is ready to use
To make tincture
7. Put weed and alcohol in a mason jar and set back in souse vide at 66C for 4 hours
8. Strain, I use muslin, and cool tincture and use or I usually reduce to around 30ml and using a stove top water bath, this can be reduced further to get to oil
9. Decant into a dropper bottle.
I've not attempted to make anything other than tincture using this method, I should think the extraction process using mason jar in water or a bag will work fine, there's plenty of info about the extraction on here and the web though.
1/4ml is cool, 1/2ml is warm, 1ml is pretty stoned, 2ml+ asking for trouble, your titration may vary
