Just started my new indoor soil grows.

My surface soil is dry but it must still be damp down deep. Bags are still heavy feeling. What should I look for to tell me when to water again?

Thanks All!!

I go by weight but if the leaves droop it's a bit too dry but give her water and back up they go. I do a quart in my gallon pots one per week until flower then twice a week, sometimes more, in flower. Bags dry out faster than pots though.

a light pot or bag is the short answer.a spare pot with dry soil in the corner so i can pick up each day helps me remember what a light pot feels like, and when to water.wait a tad too long and they droop, but will recover quickly.
watering is more a feel thing, way to mary variables for a one size fits all approach.i dont really trust the stick your finger in,because the top 2 inches can be dry and centre of pot sodden.depends on mix of soils perlite etc.

Get a feel for pot weight. Lift pot with thumb and index finger when watered and then when dry. You can also do the finger knuckle check. When I was in soil, I let my pots dry well before another watering again.

Thank you @archie gemmill , @Rollin_along and @AutoWonders

All sound good. Think I will wait till someone droops a little then lift and catalog. I'm good at guessing weights. Used to fish Bass Tournaments semi pro. Always could guess within ounces after doing it for so long.

You all pointed me in the right direction :thanks::thanks::thanks:

You will be sorted then, if it smells like fish though, you're in trouble.

its not recommended to wait till droop before every feeding, ideal just before.a lil droop never hurt and they will recovery quickly.
nice tip Rollin :d5: any nasty smell coming from the pot and its overwatered.
