Hey gang!

I'm not new to growing, but I just switched to hydro. There's a bit of a learning curve. This is my first hydroponic grow ever.

So I check my lady last night and she's looking fine. However, I noticed this green discoloration on the Hydrotron surrounding the rooter plug. On closer inspection it is all over the top of the rooter plug as well. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Additional info - It's Top Fed DWC. She's 10 days old today and the top feed is still running. I am using Hydroguard. The root is just popping out of the net pot and looks healthy and white. No odors.

i think a lot of hydro guys have a lil algae on top,not a problem unless it gets out of hand.thats why you see them using black tubes not clear tubes.some put a square of mylar or the likes round stems to keep out the light.
good luvk n keepe rlit

Green one fine, no problems, brown/black one big trouble!

As you get canopy and airflow it will pretty much only be superficial.

My first ever hydro grow but I'm learning a lot. Thanks in no small part to AFN! (Have I mentioned I freakin' love this place?) At first (getting all the equipment, setting it up, etc.) I was thinking, "This isn't worth it. I don't see the point." But after seeing how relatively low maintenance it is after it's up and running and seeing the results I'm thinking, "OK! I get it."

(Plus playing with the measurements, lines, meters, etc. makes me feel like a mad scientist. And since I'm a middle aged child, I dig that.)

I use plastic dinner plants to cover the hydrocorn and stop the light from reaching my rockwood cubes when growing from seeds. I drill a hole in the center, then a slit from the center hole to the edge. I can then easily slide them around the stem. No only do they keep the light out they also keep a lot of leaves out of my hydrocorn, making it easier to clean and reuse while reducing to risk of any remaining vegetable matter contaminating my solution.
