Hi, I'm TxGrowman as you can likely guess from Texas. Home of the tornado and deluge rainstorms for about six weeks of the year! Unfortunately, we are in the middle of that six week period. Glad I grow indoors. I recently had to retire from the medical field after 45 years due to, you guessed it, medical problems. I found that MMJ helps my condition greatly, esp blueberry. The problem is blueberry is a tall plant and will not fit in my grow room. Autos seemed like the logical choice for me.

I have heard many things that are different with Autos so I will be leaning on you all to help me some. Some of the things I have heard (not sure if all are true)

  • No nutes for the first month or until the flowering starts. Only give water.
  • They DO NOT like transplanting so keep them in the same pot.
  • 20/4 is the optimal light for the entire grow.

I have just started with WW and AK-47 (second grow) and am starting to get the hang of it (with a lot of help from friends on a web site).

Thought I would try Autos as they will fit in my 4x2x5 foot tent. (not a lot of room to grow big plants)

Greetings TGm,
Plenty of Lonestar Growers here.
Your bullet points are a bit outdated.
1. Nutes-start at quarter to half strength. Since you are aiming to keep them small, no need to feed heavy in veg. but you still wan to feed them.
2. That is somewhat generally true, kind of. Since you have a limited time to grow them out, it is best not to set them back b transplanting if it can be avoided. Sometimes you need to, If that is the case, it will probably work out ok.
3. Lots of debate on this one, but 20/4 is a good schedule for auto's, go with what works for you.

Good Luck!

Hey Tex from what I've read as far as keeping autos small ... of course genetics would be at the top of the list, but there's other things you can do to keep them small which would include; 1) starting them in smaller pots. 2) transplanting them. 3) using only flowering nutes from the 1st feed. 4) LST and topping. That's just a few that I would throw out there as I'm sure there's many more. Some may argue against this, but it's just my "My 2 cents" ... Good luck .... :peace:

I'm growing a couple Lowryder 2 right now they have stayed under 20 inches except for one, and they seem to have produced good for there size. Don't know exactly how much yet since harvest day will be this weekend but I am happy with them so far. Don't know how the smoke is yet but it looks good and reviews online give it a decent rating. I got several more verities to try out and my space is a foot shorter then yours. I have used LST on one plant to see how short I can make it and it seems to be maxing out at about 12 inches with lots of buds starting. LST to keep them short is what I'm gonna do in the future for my taller strains.

Welcome Growman,

I concur with GreyBear. Enjoy you AFN time, eP.

Morning TxG - Welcome to AFN! ^_^

4x2x5 isn't too bad for space. Of course, still to your grow plan and I'd probably fit 4 reasonable sized autos in there - something like sweet seeds black cream (my unashamed favourite) or maybe 2 bigger ones like Think different or Auto Ultimate.

When you get the hang of your space and confidene that you wont accidentaly mess a plant up, it may work out less hassle to look after 2 plants and get the same yeild as you would with 4 smaller ones ... but less variety hehe - so it's like a trade off!

I love planning a grow - i can take me a month and usually i change my mind at the last minute anyway! :) So much good strains to grow .. but we'll never get through them all! :)

Happy growing!
All the best

Blue ^_^

Happy growing Growman and welcome aboard. You won't regret going for autoflowers, believe me ;)
