Grow Mediums Taking the DWC plunge

Well, I've been mulling this over in my head for months now. I finally got up the nerve to try DWC.
I'm trying a two-bucket method so I don't have to keep pulling the plant out of the solution to check pH and ppm or whatever you DWC nutters do.
I had some spare fish supplies messing up the place and I decided to put them to work!

Here's my setup:
Fluval Q1 dual outlet air pump
Two medium cylindrical air stones
Two 5 gal buckets
1 x 6" bucket top net pot
Rapid rooters
Hydroton
GH FloraGro, FloraMicro, FloraBloom
Hydroguard
CaliMagic

I do have concerns about the two buckets mixing well, so I may add a small pump in the off-bucket to a top feed to make it a small RDWC(?) I think that's right...
Let's see what I can *€>%^! up with this mess.

It's going to be a bit before it gets going, but I'll save a seat and start making some snacks.

One thing, when you add a plant, make sure the roots are touching the water. And add pebbles to the top of the pot, or the lower leaves will touch the sides of the pot and may get damaged.

Look at the picture, see what I mean? The pebbles are leveled with the lip of the pot. [emoji121] [emoji6]

Auto Night Queen by Dutch Passion. I figured I'd go with something I've already done. That and my wife requested it.
So, she's just starting to peek above the rooter. I'm going to start adding a bit of light tomorrow probably.
I'm really debating adding a small pump from the other reservoir to do top feeding. It'll be unnecessary after a few weeks, though. We'll see.

I love that you're going head first into this! And if I may... The wife is always right... I never thought of putting the rapid rooter directly in the medium. Is that a hydro thing? I mean, I imagine it'll work, just curious. In terms of the top feed, ive read it helps speed up initial growth so i guess it couldnt hurt! Keep up the good work! I shall live vicariously through you in the hydro world haha.

Day 1:

I MacGyver'd the snot out of an old water pump and a four hub drip that I had tucked away and made a top feed thingy for it. I only had a 1gph drip button to put at the end. I wonder if that will be enough.
Why is she wearing her seed hat as pants, you ask? Who knows...
