Mephisto Genetics Testing some Mephisto...for Mephisto!

Hey Everyone! Well I had an interesting couple of days. My son wanted to use a little pitching machine that he got for his Birthday. It ia these mini yellow balls and he can use it indoors . So this is the fist time setting it up in basement. I grabbed an extension cord, because it would not reach the plug at the distance we needed. My son plugged the extenstion cord into to wall. Then I attempted to put the other 2 ends together. ZAPPPPPP...Pooooof....BuRN! The extension cord sprayed arc and flames onto my left hand. Luckily I dropped it quickly. However, my hand is burned badly! I have giant blisters. My wife got some Silver Gel and that stuff is helping already! Wow that sucked! But I am very thankful that it was my hand and not my sons hand.

On a more postitive note My Soir Ctacks are doing amazing! So far the Home Made SIPs are kickin Ass.
Oh my! As awful and painful I imagine the burns you suffered are , I’m glad that it wasn’t more serious and the rest of your family was unharmed. You really have me wanting to try and make a few of these homemade SIPS! Did you by any chance document it anywhere?

Kinda. You wanna know how to make?

The smaller ones you can use a Box Knife to cut the lid around the interior. Larger Totes need a saw. You need a Drill. A drill bit. Saw or PVC cutter. Need to drill a bunch of holes in the lid bwfore you cut it out. This becomes your Air Gap/Rez Top/False Botttom. A PVC pipe is your "Feeding Tube", it goes in 1 corner. The Rez holds 1 galmof water. I drill a hole right above 1 gal of water, for overflow. I use pvc to support the false bottom, they are cut 1/2 longer than the Overflow hole. For example. The overflow hole is at 2 inches. So the Support Pipes are cut to 2 1/2 inches. This creates the airgap. Cut a 2 inch section out of each corner of the false bottom. 1 holds the feeding tube. The other 3 hold Soil, and are your wicking areas. The soil is down into the Rez and Wicks up the water. You can also use PVC and drill holes to hold the soil and wick. I will add a picture of how the City Pickers are set up. I used that as my example on these. Will take a pic in a few of the City Pickers I have. My Home made ones are just smaller and home made.

Love it! I believe the hardware stores and such just recently got the go ahead to reopen so I’ll be able to pick up anything I don’t have... just think I need to read through your post a dozen more times for it to really click! Lol

Thank you @slowandeasy for this guide. In my area (Europe) SIPs aren‘t available and I was thinking of building one by myself ... now I know how to do it :thanks: . Sometimes I‘m on the road for a couple of days and a SIP would make life a lot easier for my wife who‘s taking care of the grow in the meantime. I‘ll probably build one in autumn. First run will be done non-organically which I think should work as well if you are careful with the feeding. Want to compare it to my Airpot-grows.

I hope your hand feels better now. :pighug: Take care bro and happy growing! :toke:

Is it plugged in... ok plug it in lol. Glad you're ok buddy. I use to install car audio for friends and myself and know what it's like. That will wake ya up, my mom had these deer repellent that were zappers. Put 2 AA in and touch it and you got a nice zap. We use to chase each other with them. Damn, we use to do some dumb stuff lol.

Mine gave me 2nd degree burns on my left hand. But I am SUPER impressed witj the Silver Gel My wife got from.the store. It keeps risk of infection down and is fist aid felief foe burns. My buddy blows glass, they keep.a jar on hand. This is a really bad burn dude. I cant use my left hand normally and my 1st 2 fingers have blisters on them badly. But I am keepin it clean and this Silver Gel on. The changes are very obvious since using it. My cousin told me about it, cause she is a nurse and they use Silve Gel on vurn wounds. Keepin it covered most of the time, with gel.and bandage on it. Blisters arw massive. But going down daily. Not popping them. But I am sure it would help with use, it can bring infection if popped early. Will.let it do its thing.

Hey @gringuito98 , SIPs are by far the easiest way to grow organically for watering purpouses IMO. AUTOPOTS keep soil too moist. Hand watering is tricky in soil at times. These SIPs are idiot proof! You cannot really overwater per say. I dont suggest keeping Rez totally full for first few weeks of life, to promote faster rootgrowth. The soil is not going to be "overwatered"...but not ifeally moist for seedlings. So less is more for forst few weeks. They have overflow holes, but I prefer running 1/2 full til.they grow a little. Then topping off is fine. For optimal.growth, top dressing 2 times is usually helpful. But other than that, you can run TAP water start to finish. Microbes can help 1x per week. EWC are your best friend in Organics. Use them heavily. I am actually using more now than ever because I am reusing my Soil. This is AWESOME! I spent a lot of monwy to ship Kis Organics soil....but it actually gets better with use. I dont throw my soil out ever now, and reuse it always. People are using same Kis Soil 6 years straight! Small initial investment in shipping. But the decreased Labor and Increased Quality are undeniable. Your wife can have your plants properly watered in 5 to 10 minutes...max. You can fine tune Organics in SIPs easier, because they stay perfectly watered. You dont have overwatering symptoms ever. So if you have Quality Water Only soil, youbonly have to work on ways to imrove yields orgsnically. The main difference is you have to plan AHEAD. So, top dressing today will actually effect the plants in 2 weeks...not immediately. I am going to be running a few experiments moving forward. I hopefully can share some information on how to maximize growth and yields in SIPs. My buddy @MrOldBoy has me ready to try a little Air injection experiment. However, I would start slowly and only run for a brief amount of time immediately after watering. To avoid Decreased Rez levels and Air injection, which can cause root issues and over feeding symptoms is roots are allowed to dry out too much. I believe this has potential to help, but needs experimenting foe optimal use. I am afraid this method could potentially cause your plants to become hungrier than Water Only Soil is able to provide, if plants become more hydro like vs soil they can have different needs. Def has potential. Use of different Microbes is also another experiment I will be doing. I believe in Microbes, but need to know optimal use in SIPs. Nobody really knows optimal use in SIPs yet. But some suspect running Lower levels 2x per week could be better than 1x per week at full rate. Due to rapid use of water in SIPs and also keeping microbes in Rez could potentially become concentrated or contaminated? More experiments needed, as we see @TxRebel/Mark had an issue in his Rez with Fish Shit....possiibly? When we use a Rez of any kind, we have to keep things healthy. Adding items to a Rez can change things... sometimes for better or sometimes for worse. Water only will not cause issues. But much is to be learned about adding things to SIPs rez. Regardless. They work great for Organics. I am actually going to try Coco and nutes in a Homemade SIP Soon. Should be fun...peace SLOW

@BCBudlady and @gringuito98
Here is a pic of the City Picker bottom. Note the 3 cut outs that hold Coco in each Corner, they Wick up from Rez. Now the 4th corner has a hole foe feeding tube. The Black part with holes is set about 3 inches higher than the bottom. Creating the Rez underneath. Holding about 2 to 3 gal of water max. Overflow holes ensure no overwatering. Hope it makes sense how I make them now. Its super easy. You want to have a Cover Cap on your SIPs. To keep moisture in and pests out. The Earthboxes have Showr caps made for them...I use plastic garbage bag and clamp the remaining section of LID on to keep sealed. Blue painters tape or foil tape if needed for holes. Peace, slow

When I was in HS I worked at a fast food chain. Well i preparing to clean a fryer. I was scraping the top while it was draining. Not sure if it was clogged or just draining slow, well scraper was stuck little so I pushed. BAD IDEA! Hand went into the fryer up to my elbow. I'm looking at the scare right now lol. My forearm was burned like nothing I've ever seen. I forgot to mention I had heated up to fryer so it would clean better, so oil was like 300+°. Blister was like 8" x 3" roughly and was filled with liquid. I was forced to participate in gym the next day. Kid grabbed basketball off me and got my arm stuck in his shirt, before I could say stop the blister broke open and his shirt was soaked lol. That shit hurt so bad I cant even describe. I am no stranger to burning myself hahaha. I have burned myself with my banger like 3x on the same forearm. Put you rig down if you start coughing, took me 3x to learn that lol. I feel for you bud and glad nothing real bad happened. Electricity is no joke everyone be careful! Heal up buddy I'm dabbing 1 for ya now some Forgotten cookies. Stay lifted.
