I have some autos under 18/6. They start to get tired and wilt, looking really exhausted after 13-14 hours of light. I believe, the meaning of this is, I'm simply wasting energy and they dont even like it. I witnessed the same behaivour in my Photoplants as well.

Maybe We are giving them too many hours and its not really necessary.
Could this be right or Im just talking no sense ?

I also cant imagine a plant living really happy under a regime like 20/4 or even 24/0. Thats insane for me

I notice this in veg no experiance with autos though

What kind of setup you got? Autos thrive under 18 hours or more some strains like 12-16 hrs but not many :smokebuds:

I have 2 diff setups , one is a 150x150 DR2 tent with 2x400 Watts 215 cfm air exchange with CF.
Second is where the autos are now, and thats a small DIY box using 250 watts.
8 plants at the tent, 4 autos at the box. And same reaction to the long day hours.

Tent is 12/12 now, and plants are working exactly 12 hours as they should. Looking happy with V shaped leaves , producing their food.

But when I veg them, they were acting the same way. I can see they want to go to sleep but Im torturing them by keeping the lights on.

While a number of factors can be at play my guess is your water uptake to loss rate. You sound like a soil guy-if after 12 hours the soil is a bit dryer and the lights are still on, the plant is transpiring faster than the roots can pull water out of the slightly dryer soil. Also durring the dark the tissue loads up on hydration and can sustain the plant for some time before wilt when it has less root capacity than it's transportation rate. I've had plants were it was necessary to water twice a day.

I guess it would depend on the strain. My plants go 24/0 for the first few weeks. Then 20/4 for the rest of the time. No problems here.

What size is your box and what are the temperatures and humidity? You could be running a little warm with low humidity. That will effect the transpiration rate.

I'll second that, because I've had that issue personally. I could be off, but my guess is temps in there are low 80's and RH is in the 20s or so. If that isn't the issue, we can figure out what else it may be.

I wrote a detailed post but after hitting the reply, this nice message has displayed :
