Lighting Vipar LED The Manual.

can't give you an exact, but I changed out my 600 watt MH for 2-300 watt LED lights and my temps went WAY down. I'm talking going from my air conditioner not keeping up with the heat when the outside temps got up to about 50P ( 10C ) to it being 90F ( 32 C ) outside and my air conditioner still keeps my room at about 74F ( 24C ). Switching to LED makes a huge difference when it comes to temperature control.

Thinking about swapping a 400hps for a 300w Vipar LED mainly due to heat.. can't keep temp in my tent below 31c with the hps.. has anyone done this swap can you say how much it reduces temps roughly?? 2c? 5c? 10?? First grow.. any help much appreciated..

I swapped a 400w hps for a Vipar 240 and added a V300 later, personally I'd get two smaller panels for crossover plus you'll need to make sure your temps stay up even with them turned on. If you use the same air extraction as you are with HPS you'll never get the temps above outside ambient, I use just a 4" extraction fan at half speed and passive intake but yours would depend on the space you have. In winter I need a heater all the time or a couple of cfl's to keep the heat up!

I lost about 10c on average in answer to your question :)

I finally got all set up and got a few plants in there. The pics are about 1-2 weeks apart. Strain is Killa-watt (photo, couldn't wait on auto seeds anymore longer) and the plants are so far loving the tent. Cal/Mag is definitely going to be a permanent thing I think. They were a little bit nitrogen starved before I transplanted and within a few days they showed a calcium deficiency. My ph was also terrible at 5! Got some ph up and calimagic and all is well. They started to show their first signs of flower last night so things are about to get fun!

Looking sweet , very sweet indeed :)

Thanks for the replies folks.. Bilbo im using a 0.8 x 0.8 x 1.6 tent.. I have 4 autos in there.. 4 inch extract just doesn't cut it.. if ordered an 6" RVK L1 which shud b here any day so I'm gonna give that a go and c if it helps temps but I'm exhausting into the room the tent is in and it's a small room so not sure even the upgraded extract will make much difference.. if not it'l b LEDs.. just gotta keep goin til I get it right!!

I meant I went from a 6" extractor/4" intake fans with hps to just needing a 4" extractor with led. Mine vents into the same space but I fitted some ducting to allow air in and out of the space.
My tent is pretty much the same size as yours btw, here's my setup atm for during the summer, stays steady at 25c +/-2c with two Vipar panels and two spotlamps with lights on 24/0, the fan is silenced outside and above the tent.

I use a 4" extractor fan and a VARIAC pumping through a duct muffler to vent the tent in my bedroom. It's actually quite quiet and keeps the temps in check. I think when winter comes I will be able to tone the VARIAC down even more to keep the tent temps in check.

As it sits in the dead of summer I run the VARIAC at about 60% and use a fan blowing air in the through the window for fresh air and to keep the bedroom cool. In winter I'll be using the light to help heat the bedroom :Gold::grin:

There is no WAY I could do this with an HPS. I'd have to have a 6" fan pulling air out of the tent and venting it to the outdoors, no matter what size it was. I don't miss trying to cool HPS lights, nor do I miss the electricity bill that accompanies running them. We'll see if the results make it worth it, I have a feeling they will.....

Gr8 info and advice guys.. much appreciated.. ordered a 300w Vipar.. hopeful it will sort temps out as it's a nightmare at the min wrestling with it.. if I got away with a 4" extract with the LED it would be a complete bonus!! Cheers.

I've got 2 panels and 2 spots but still had to turn the fan off completely for a couple of hours yesterday when the tent temps got down to 20c!

My temps stay at about 25c during the day when lights are on (2 x 300W panels), but I keep my oscillating tower fan on full power 24/7. I really cant recommend one of these fans any more for grow tents, they are the perfect hight and size, and give a nice even blow of air.

I'm also only using a cheap 4 inch extraction fan attached to my carbon filter, which isn't particularly that powerful, but keeps the temps even. To be honest I was really surprised how effective such a small fan is at neutralizing the grow tent smells with the filter, only a £10 fan with like £20 filter and taken smells away completely.

My lights off time are between 12pm and 4pm, which i figured to be roughly the hottest times of the day, and I have it running right through the night to try counter the temp drop.
