New Grower Waira's 11-strain-in-the-membrane outdoor grow

This thread has the longest posts, but tons of info.......

:peace: grow/learn

***< Mz. S'> :smokeit: I'm glad you like! Like I said, there's a lot to digest here, more even if you squint to see in between the lines, so to speak...! I'm not sure exactly what Muddy's driving at on the soil,... TLO or a 'tuned up' store bought soil, which is what friend Doobie started out doing, and then evolved into a TLO,... I'll ask him for specifics! As for light duration, I don't think he's saying that it's the primary reason for leafy buds, but it's a contributing factor,...I suspect that weaker light intensity, regardless of duration would be a bigger factor in this, vs. shorter hours of high intensity...(and that gets us into plant physiology 101!) .... which leads us to the bloom fert's and supp.'s issue, and where I think the real tricky skills begin when working with auto's... We're warned by words and hard knock example about overfeeding so much, it makes us n00b's gun shy about it through the whole life cycle.... for me, it was N that was the culprit, and from there on I was conservative with everything, when in fact I should have rode the plants harder on P during the transition nute regime into full bloom... But making the call on that is easier said than done, ay? throw in the genetics, (strain to strain, pheno to pheno), which we can do nothing about, nor detect in any way until we get the results, and the waters become so muddy,....where to point the finger of blame for leafy shrimpy results..? My B. Lee's are a perfect example of this: now, the two show marked differences in their buds- one has 'normal, albeit smallish, buds with nice trich coverage, and the other larger plant has more leafy, narrow buds that are notably heavier in trich' production! :face: Fuck!? how do you win??! ...So, all we can do is help boost whatever they're gonna grow, and more aggressive bloom nute's are a big part of it, just like your homies said! Just keep in mind it's no panacea against leafy tendencies; if one gets an inferior plant, and then it's TFB nothing can be done...and one can't tell until blooming,... more craps shooting! :joint: As Muddy says, it's early in the game for auto's; some will be near sure winners, barring grower error, others are a roll of the dice, and some are pure schwag....(like that BlimBurned seed you got). All we can do is to research carefully, apples to apples, other folks' grows AND breeder choices..., then throw our hat into the ring! (LOL! granted we can find the info, or if it's here at all at the time we choose...)
they can grow outside from March thru November...
That is a bunch of 'technically correct' marketing dogshit! Yeah, it can 'grow' outside then, but don't expect doodly-crap from the plant! That has been one of the hard knock sucker lessons hapless n00b's like us, just looking into auto's, get to step in first and find out about later....
So, mon Cherie, I too feel the same as you do sometimes about our grow, and auto's in general,... but then I remind myself that this is the sucky, difficult part of the learning curve we're climbing, I (and you) know we can do better... the scientist in me tells me that I didn't run the experiment right this time, so I better not read much into the results until another better trial is run! If this next grow frag's out on me though, I'm done with auto's for a while, or until maybe an indoor grow opportunity comes along.... With other viable alternatives, like Cres' early/fast finishers, there are options that average the best of both worlds...
I'll do a big update tomorrow, pics, and an early test smoke of Hazels poor twin, mini Cobra! *hint* I got plenty stoned!! LOL! Your turn!! :brow: Thanks luv.....

Mr. Musturd! thanks for the swing-by,... and I did add dolomite to my roots soil!.. just to be safe :toke: BTW, I had your spicy honey cousin on my bratwurst tonight, and it was fantastic! :yoinks: LOL! I know, what kinda :worm: am I?! :roflcry: .... Yeah, my thoughts don't usually come in short, vacuous, blurbs....
LOL! too much to talk about as a n00b!
*** just noticed- thanks for the :slap: Musturd! My hope was that this thread would be a good place to cruise through for n00b's like me, and reward those who bother themselves to look for hints and help before they get started and along the way,... that's why it's a bit verbose and info dense! ... sometimes brutally honest....Plus, as you know well, there's always going to be some fine folks who tag along and share experiences with :smoke: It's all good! I do see a lot from you and the Missus' posted here, and enjoy what I can get to follow,... LOL! there's only so many hours in a day, and so many great growers here!.... Thanks mate!

I was feeling pretty pissy a day or so ago :twist: but just thinking about the issues reflectively has made me feel better about this auto grow. And less like just putting the whole crop in a pile and setting it on fire. Well, I'll probably still set it on fire, just not all at once...

Amen, to both of you. I needed to read that tonight, after the last few days, and had to at least respond to that tonight.

I think I told you, that I'm starting another small round of Autos myself along with
the HR's earliest Photo gear (which is already doing well). So, I too will be able to hopefully somewhat improve on everything I could possibly of done wrong with my first attempt at Autos, well Photos as well. Right now I feel about the ONLY thing I did right with the Autos, was to go with TLO from the get go.

Hopefully tomorrow,-well actually later today as it is after 2 am-I will get back to you with a real reply back to you on your last couple of posts to me (questions to be answered ) on my part, as well as your PM to me on Monday night.

Waira, I want you to know that I so appreciate your continued support and encouragement to me.

I do have a lot on my plate, but much of it my own making. At my age I just don't know any other way, as it's part of who I am. All the years in construction, my motto was "go hard, or go home", and yes I am talking strictly about work ethics here.:D I have always been hard on myself, and I could be a real prick to work for at times, due to the fact that I would project that on others.

Good night my friend. I must now go dark.

Hey waira, you crazy Central Californian down there where you have REAL summers!
Well today, I'm finally getting back to you, as today is probably going to be a down time for most of the day, for the Stickster. I'm more out of it than normal today (hey, what's normal?) So, I will just use the old quote an answer method.

Stickbro' you crazy ol' hippy! Remember the pics from the thread that got term'ed the next day? (at least that's where I think I saw them,... LOL! I went a little bat-shit for a minute there trying to find them, then remembered "duh, this missing thread!"!) I mentioned what I thought was suspect leaves way down low in that last pic... these were the 'brown lines', right? running parallel to some heavier rib-veins...? The spinosad should tune those little ***** up, nicely!
Yea, I don't know if you caught Xs diagnosis before I hit delete ,but he also confirmed leaf minors. Which by the way, I will not be deleting anymore threads in the Hospital/Infirmary section. I did not even consider that it might help others with the same issues. I am sure you are like this also, that if you aren't sure what is going on with your ladies, you do all that you can to self-diagnose the problem yourself. For myself, that includes using the search engine here at AFN, and entering key words for said issues, and more times than not, there are others that have already asked for help in the Hospital/Infirmary section.

The spinosad did stop the spread of the existing critters, but now the little bastards are on some other plants, along with the beginning of thrips. Man the jewelers loupe is a sweet little tool. Thanks again for mentioning using one; I use mine every day now. I will be spraying again tomorrow morning. I did read on the label that you are only supposed to use it a total of 7 times a year. Also, you were correct concerning my ladies also being affected my something fungal in nature. Sprayed with Neem Oil on Friday, and took care of that for now. Veggie garden also had some type of mosaic fungus on most all species, which I don't ever remember encountering it before. Did some research and had no idea that there were so many different types. What I had covered of some of the leaves, and was primarily magenta in color. Any thoughts on that?

Stick, don't you have wolverines, great grey owls, and all kinds of other interesting wildlife where you're at?
No, on the wolverines, but a big yes on the great grey owls. We usually have a pair that hang around close to the house in the trees. Have to keep an eye on my male toy poodle, who only weighs around 7 pounds. We don't have much else here except the occasional moose, wild turkeys, pheasants, oh did I mention deer?
Lived in the mountains of Northern Id. for 12 years, we had every PNW critter imaginable, traveling through our land. Both by land and air. We were really into feeding the birds, and it was unreal how many species lived in the Conifer Forest. I do miss that, and all the awsome native flora. We had lots of native Lady Slipper Orchids growing right behind our house.

The ambient air temps are still in the low to mid 40s at night, but I think I have plenty of heat sink mass in the hoopy, with the hot tubs and the 50 gallon water barrel.
Wow, still? With the solstice 2 steps away now? I gather you're at some elevation, then...
Yea, we are still seeing those night time temps in that range, even though we are seeing upper 70s-mid 80s for day time temps. Our elevation here is at 2100 feet, so not all that high, but we live in a abnormally cold micro-climate.

I'd love to make a career of this somehow, someway, but even if you attend Oaksterdam Univ., the only way to learn is to 'do', and boy is it fun- usually! Success tastes all the sweeter for having taken some beatings along the way...
Yea, I feel the same way, it would be awesome to be able to make a career out of this in some way. I am reading and learning all I can on Botany in general, and of course specializing in Cannabis. I have always loved science, but really never had/took the time to learn it. I've known how to grow veggies, herbs, and flowers for years, just not any of the science behind plant physiology. I basically dropped out of school when I was 15 to work..... Well, work and partying. But I have always enjoyed learning.

Aw, c'mon now Stick, you saw how well they reacted to that super-juice,... imagine if you put Superthrive in there too! They'd have kick down your door that night and demanded seconds! As long as the leftover residues get rinsed off within a day or so, weather depending, I think the occasional 'treat' is a good thing! besides, with the fish emulsion in there, many bugs might be repelled by that mixed in with the molasses.... ditto for the superthrive! B-vit's smell sooo gnarly!!
Believe it or not in all the years I've been gardening, I have never heard of, or used SuperThrive, as I have always just made my own compost/manure/FE teas. I just looked it up and was blown away to learn that it has been on the market since 1940. One drop per gallon,.. wowser. Had to do a little bit of digging, but found that it that it is indeed organic. Will pick some up, next time I'm in town. Well that will be Thursday, get to spend $550 at the Dentist then, so what's a few more bucks for some O that superjuice. Thanks for the tip on spraying the residue off in a day or so. After I read that I had another Duh moment.
so, I still say you have the green light to pop in at my thread, and make special guest appearances, with any pics of the ladies you'd like to share and we'd like to see,... it's all good, mate!
Thanks, I will take you up on that.

There must be some misunderstanding about the tiering method ......
Well, the more I am learning about plant physiology, the more I realize just how important the overall root structure/mass is.IMHO the root system has to work that much harder growing straight down in the cup, and only then is it able to branch out latterly. Maybe this does not matter when growing with chem nutes, but I believe it very important when growing with TLO soils. But, then again, maybe I'm just out to lunch on that as well. I was able to gently cut the cups off of some of the Autos in which the soil had settled enough, and fill around them with TLO. I know it is too late for any additional veg growth, but just maybe it may help with the buds filling out a little more than they would have. It will be interesting to see after harvest, just how much the roots will have grown out latterly half way the grow, after removing the cups.
You saw what the sensei's had to say If I knew the real truth, the statistical likelihood of subpar results from outdoor growing, and all the other SNAFU packed 'fun' with auto's, I just may not have even bothered, and stuck with photo's.
Yea, you and me both on growing the Autos outside, but like you, we shall see with this next Auto grow. I'm betting your glad that you are trying some HRs early/fast finishing Photos.( the MOB), this year.

Thanks for asking, and then posting Muddy's and MNS responses. Many things were confirmed for me, but what stood out the most of course was the light intensity/duration factor. Now I am really going crazy with the LST. I am LSTing absolutely every bud site I can in order to get as much light to them as possible. I posted some pics on Sapphires Outdoor Thread on how I am doing my LST.

Let us know how your youngsters are doing.

I fried my first seedling the other night. I did not pay close enough attention when lowering my T5HO, and must have sat it right onto the tallest seedling. Crispy critter, it was in the morning.

OK, I am all typed out for now. Too toast to proof read so, I hope most of it makes sense.

Shoo-bee Doobie! :D What's shakin'? I think you may have missed an earlier post with stuff for in it; sometimes I blend responses for others together in one post,....
Sir Doobage! I saw your iron-nugget Buddha gal made it into the BOM comp.! :booya: Yaaaa- boi!! ... what a shame we can't smell all the wonderful aromas in that show,... LOL! I know, my turn to lag on the nose-report! :D Next day or 2, I'll get it posted! Aromatics are still refining at this point, of course...
LOL! I'll make good on my olfactory report tomorrow, along with a belated update,.... just too many matches in my toes lately! I'll head your way after this..... Dewd! Jump in anywhere, anyway :booya:it's not like this pool is crowded! Not like "Lake Rebel",... :roflcry: Shiiiiiiit, that cat needs a secretary.... :smoke: thanks for the swing-by, mate! see you at your place...

Sir Stickington of the Foothills! How art thee? LOL! ..sorry, blame the echo's of some late night Monty Python I was phasing on....:joint: I hope you're feeling better,... What's the farm update my friend? I trust all's well enough..! Glad to hear you're firing off a few more auto beans! Who's ya got?... I bet your TLO batch has cooked up nicely by now, so those lucky little devils better pay you back in kind! LOL! When you can, snap off a few candid shots of the ladies for us :wiz: .. I'm dyin' to see how they're doing!
Waira, I want you to know that I so appreciate your continued support and encouragement to me.

Aaah, g'on man! Easy money! :smoke: You're the stud here, mate! Running Stick-Co Farms is no task for the faint-hearted,...I'm happy to cheer from the sidelines! Like I said before, you don't have a plateful, you've got a 4 course meal spread over two arms! as for you motto, maybe lose the 'or' part, and call it good- :hump: :roflcry: And no 'projecting'!! Bad boss!- that's a baaaad boss! :firedevil: LOL! Don't make me call Dr. Phil,... :jaw: ...okay, next....
Hey waira, you crazy Central Californian down there where you have REAL summers!
Pshh- yeah! -real foggy! Summers here,... fog's the norm,... Usually though it clears up enough to get some nice prime-time sun... Ah! I did catch X's post... Self diagnosis is a great tool/skill, and even if you don't get a firm conclusion, it really helps in asking the right questions, huh! Between my books, and the vast mine of info here (with that improved search tool for a bulldozer), we're rather well set up; add in access to Sensei level help that's just a message away, and we're off the hook good here!! :wiz: **** I think the Spinosad is hard to beat, Stick,.. <--( pun intended)! We have no long term contact/proximity type of nukes that are safe enough (that I'm aware of,..maybe pyrethrum?), but as a contact poison that's so nonreactive with the plants, and soil microbes, but hell on the vermin, it's tops! My results over the last month on thrips has been great,... I've hit'm 3-4 times, (soil too, not heavy), and between that and the DE, I WON :twist: As you know, any really mobile vermin (aphids are endless for me) just won't stay away, so vigilance is really the first weapon we have... Ditto for fungal's!.... with your cooler nights, I'm not surprised that you're getting some spotting here and there. Mosaic fungus? We know virus' form these pattern necrotic patches, but I dunno about fungals... you tell me! The color change also smacks of virus,... dammit! I have a particular hate for virus'.... orchids that catch them are doomed, even if they can live they're still a liability, and so must be destroyed, literally (into the actual garbage, never into compost)...
Man, those GG Owls are impressive creatures, huh! Seeing something that huge flying in utter silence is just brilliant! We have Great Horned Owls here, nesting near by, and every so often at night I'll see this fast moving large shadow cruise by me, without the slightest noise.... they are however, some of the most noisome of birds at times, and often not the pleasant who-who-whooo-whooo, but these horrid demonic shrieks! Creeeepy..... LOL! No lie about watching out for the dog, Stick! 7 pounds is a fine meal for many creatures, and even the turkeys will deal out some hell if they feel threatened sometimes... *** Oh, cool.!.. you found some native LS's, ay? What color are these? *** Yeah, where you used to live, I think that general area is a major 'air lane' for all kinds in birds, and many are happy to pitstop in your yard to score some much needed snacks :D
LOL! Yes, the old school graphics on the Superthrive labeling/packaging is like a time-warp to that era! I can't think of a single product that's been around that long, and remained totally the same from day1...very cool... and boy, do I love that stuff! It's indispensable at work, especially with costly, difficult orchids that come in from overseas after a sucky trip through customs that are often a challenge to revive, but w/o this stuff, the survival %'s would really drop off,... oh! forget the 'drop-a-gal.' nonsense,... when I make 'love juice' at work or home, I use about 2tsp/gal with surfactant and just slop it all over the plants!
The dentist! A little while back I had a root canal done, molar,..$1250! ...at least it was truly, physically painless... LOL! ...good doc....
The Roots, man! Hard to say which end of the plants is the business end! I'm not so sure about the taps root struggles, mate.. here's a link to a little side thread w/ some good stuff
https://www.autoflower.org/f2/lets-get-some-data-21738-2.html
As for auto's, my attitude on them is contingent on the outcome this time around! LOL! We know there's good stuff out there, and more and more all the time, but sifting out the riff-raff is a whole other animal... I'm glad the sensei quotes were helpful! sorry about the BBQ seedling! oh well, they'll make more.... *yawn!!* okay, speaking of BBQ..... update tomorrow on the books.... :buds:

028.jpg033.jpg<-- Cobra- Very nice trich's, and a very sweet aroma, with a little bit of strawberry cheesecake in there (hope this stays!)

006.jpg030.jpg<-- Star Ryder- like a cola top stuck in the ground! Mild floral/fruity smell...

008.jpg031.jpg<-- pale Star Ryder- similar, but with a bit of that incensey background...

012.jpg013.jpg<-- petite Red dwarf- smells sweet spice/ fruity, still a bit of chz in there too...

016.jpg018.jpg<-- Red Dwarf- decidedly earthy-spicey, no sweetness...

019.jpg020.jpg<-- B. Lee- sweet spice, little floral

022.jpg023.jpg<-- B. Lee- (taller) this one has more of that sweet candy smell, a bit of citrus like it should too...

026.jpg027.jpg<-- Mi5- Earthy-spicy, still kinda unrefined yet,... but sticky!

*** a bit under 11 WEEKS***

Man, is it getting tough to hold out!... but I am seeing the rewards of doing so, as since the last update buds have fattened up some, ditto for trich's, and some great colors are appearing... In fact, the only straight green ones are the BL's, Mi5, and pale Star Ryder... Fan leaves are fading fast now, and a few have their bud leaves starting to fade out too; looks like most all are going to finish pretty close to each other, despite some earlier hold outs- Star Ryders, Red Dwarfs', last Cobra (this one is stalling,...little shit!) namely,... B. Lee's will still be last, but not by much! :smoke:

The UV's, one RRF's, and PK are all in and dried/drying, and are fated for hash,... Hercules might end up with them on this too,...we'll see when chop time comes; the other RRF probably will stay as bud, like the first shorty Cobra. I've had a couple samplings of each, and both had truly good kick!:D The RRF, oddly (satv. dom.), hits like a sap upside the head, a very body heavy sluggish stone :joint:; Cobra has a nice mello balanced high... Both are still uncured, of course, but the smoke was still pretty smooth, though the aromatics overall have been strangely mild, considering how they stanked while growing,... I'm scratching my head some on this, as they dried just fine, progressively even over a week... ( Temps- 68-70; about 55% ave. H); maybe some time in the jars will wake them up some... I'll post dried pics later tonight! :bong:
The Crm. Queens and HR girls are all doing well so far,... 11/11 on germ rates! 0 losses, but almost with a Gh/C99/C99 that was snacked upon partially my something :cuss: ... lost a cotl. and a first leaf, but not the heart fortunately... I guess whatever ate it didn't really like it much! *whew* there're only 2 of these, and if I lost one like that, blue jet flames would fire out my ass! LOL! :beast:
Everybody got their first hit of FF's Microbe-Brew and a little molasses as a welcoming snack!... I'll post pics later, few days or so, and start dovetailing this thread into the new, with a fresh title... :dance2:

***freshly dried shots*** no cure yet,....

041.jpg040.jpg<-- RRF- (couple light settings here); kinda scrawny buds, but pretty frosty and plenty of kick! Thanks to Stitch for very good potency genetics! (on both actually)... high is surprisingly heavy,... relaxing, which is weird given the other reports on it, and I believe it's satv. dominant... :D

038.jpg036.jpg<-- Cobra-(mini) Even frostier! Really nice buzz- balanced, mellow, and close to top shelf strong! I pulled this one a bit early, w/ trich's just turned cloudy, sun leaves fully yellowed, but bud leaves just fading; I'm letting the other Cobra go well past this, until bud leaves yellow up some,... we'll see what kind of ambering goes down by then...
As mentioned, both have been in the jar for only a few days; Oddly, the smoke on both also has a nice aroma to them, but the bud smell and flavor are rather mild,... Not sure why this happened, or if it will improve as they cure. They dried nicely, evenly, over a week, @ 50-60% H, 68-70 F.... they also sat 36hrs in the dark prior to harvesting... So, we'll see what a little time brings; last season on my photos, things dried and cured the same way, and held the aromatics great!... well, then again, that Jack hybrid was sooo citrusy pungent, it's might be a bit unfair to measure by...if you know Jack, you know what I mean...! :smoke: I can't wait to see the rest of the gals turn out! Most of my wish will be granted- for the plants that turned out well, sizes were small, but yields will be okay for the size, and the quality, most importantly, will be spot on... :booya: :wiz:
