Hello
I am new to autos and the forum. I've been soaking up a lot of great info here.
I'd like to start growing with Biotabs in a Auto-Pot system.
I currently use RO water in my DWC grow. The Biotabs instructions say to use tap water only.
Now my city tap water is little over 400ppm. Should I continue to use RO water with CaliMagic (Cal Mag) in the Auto-Pot reservoir or could I get away with hard tap water (400ppm)?
Any help is appreciated.

You can add tap water to the RO until 100ppm or whatever desired and you should be good...
@Biotabs F69 might have some input regarding RO usage...:pass:

Yeah I thought of that. My goal is to make this perpetual grow as simple as possible. I am buying RO water right now for $1.50 per 5 gallons. Really trying to get away from Tds and Ph Meters, but I guess I wont.

Yeah, thanks Duggy thats probably the easiest way. So should it be at around 100ppm for the Biotabs Auto-pot set up? I've just moved to a new area with this hard water. Previously grew strictly with amazing tap water.

It was around 150-160ppm. I guess I kinda newb'ed it up in the past cos DWC is insane in growth. I would just give it Floranova and tap and pull a pound a light. Coco, soil and soiless mixes are a new thing to me and feel much more difficult then DWC. Live and learn I guess. Thanks for the help.

Biotabs will tell you tap water s good but RO is better I think. I believe they use RO themselves. I use biotabs and autopots and live in a hard water area, and I just fill the res and get on with it. No issues so far, but this is my first run with autopots.

I don't own any meters and am growing in coco.

Thanks for your response Hippy71. Good to hear that your grow is fine with the hard water. Do you know how hard (ppm)your water is? I'm tired of hauling 5 gallon jugs of RO water. If I could get away with tap I definitely would.

No sorry mate not a clue. Don’t own any equipment to measure anything! I’d say it’s pretty darn hard as I never need to add calmag. This run I am using coco which is notorious for cal use especially under cobs, but still no issues. I actually gave them some calmag the other day just as some sort of insurance policy, but only a tiny bit. I’ve also given them some organic mag as I’m guessing there’s more cal than mag in my water. Again though it’s just a guess! I’m trying to slowly learn to grow by looking rather than measuring. I’m not really a scientific/measuring/accurate kinda bloke! Biotabs make this possible [emoji3]
