@DTOM420 ,
@Waira .. I’m wondering if I’m even using this probe correctly? It’s the accurate 8, finally arrived ... it only has one button so I’m not sure how I’d manage to screw that up but they all read 7.0 when the button isn’t being pushed and it goes to 6.8 when I push the button. And I left it in the dirt for 10-15 minuets as per included instructions. The moisture also goes from zero to halfway to 1 when I push the button so, they definitely need water.
I haven’t watered yet because I’m just not sure if I’m using this thing right... I mean they’re all reading exactly the same. Then again they are in the same dirt and they have been watered with the same kind of water and the water is always PHed to 6.5 with a little ph up after all the nutes are mixed together. Sooo... could they possibly just all be 6.8 ph ?
MERRY CHRISTMAS, brother!
Sounds like you’re using the probe correctly. Stick it as far into the soil as you can, so tgatvas much of the silver colored shaft is covered in the soil. Also, don’t have a strong breeze blowing on any unburied section of the probe’s shaft - I used mine in a short pot (so lots of the shaft were exposed) and I noticed the reading changed after I turned a fan off, lol! After a few minutes look at the needle and the top line in the meter’s face. THAT is indicating soil pH. The white button activated the moisture content reading feature. When the button is depressed and held down, the needle will usually move some and you will see the moister reading. If you’re seeing it on the 1 on the bottom line on the probe, you’re getting pretty dry.
If your soil is at pH 7 it’s “neutral” and is a tad higher than optimal for cannabis, it shouldn’t be causing this much trouble. I shoot for 6.3-6.5 at the roots at
@Waira suggestion (see how slickly I slipped in that little call for him? Lol!) between the soil and the water/nutrients. As
@STILLSMOKIN asked....”Why are you adding pH UP solution to a water that’s 6.5?” That is a fine pH and, if I had water that was 6.5 I could avoid the cost and hassle of adjusting pH, lol! Are you taking a reading of your pH as it’s going into the soil? What I mean is, are you checking what the final pH is after everything is in the water to know, with 100% certainty, what the pH is of the solution (whether it’s a water only day or a feeding day) that you’re dumping on your soil? I wound suggest that you make it a goal to get your pH in your soil down to the 6.3-6.5 range, with 6.3 being a X-ring or bullseye hit!
Waira can confirm but I believe I’d pH my next water or feed to the 6.0-6.2 range and see how she reacts. Here’s a couple handy nutrient uptake graphs that show what pH is needed for all the majors and some of the minors...
This 7.0 reading doesn’t mean you aren’t having swings in your pH (which is bad) but usually you’ll get a reading that will be out of whack and surprise you. At least that’s what happened to me. But, even a broken clock is right twice a day. So, it’ll be better when Waira can provide some input.
Remind me/us what all you’re feeding them and the dosage? Now that you have a pH probe, you might do a recap/summary of the inputs, the age of the plants and their current stage of life, pot size and type, how often you water and how often you feed, etc. Essentially restart the thread with all the info that we’re asked to provide when starting an infirmary thread. This one has gotten long and at least I am having trouble remembering and it’s a hassle to go back through pages to locate info.
What are you using to test water pH and do you have a TDS meter? If you do have a tds meter, you ought to use it to verify the strength of the MegaCrop dosage you are using. Greenleaf has a calculator that’ll tell you what your dosage should be in a TDS value:
https://greenleafnutrients.com/feeding-calculator/?v=7516fd43adaa Using TDS to check the dosage will verify that you’re feeding the correct amount and not over or under feeding. That would definitely be a good thing to check!
I forget how long it’s been since you watered or fed but if you need to before
@Waira chimes in, I’d feed 1/2 of Greenleaf’s recommended amount for your particular growth stage and pH the final solution down to 6.0-6.2. Make it a light water - just enough to get you through until the Dr. can give you a prescription. Lol!
