Lighting What size led do I need?

Great, thanks jackmc and Bilbo! I have been reading on this site for sometime now and your previous posting have been of help to me as well, great to have the AFN community. Hope to make a decision and order a light today, 5 NL and 5 Blue Mystic should be arriving anyday...

Nice thing about the reflector is you can lower the intensity for veg, allowing your plants to stretch a little and also saving some electricty, then pump it up for flower to full strength. For a 5x5 area I would definitely go with 2 lights, the you can angle them slightly to get better penetration and also if one dies, you arent SOL. Consider 2 mars reflector 144*3watt. Cost will be around 500, depending where you shop. Make sure you purchase from a legit seller so you get the 3 year warranty. Another consideration would be the cidly apollo 10's, 2 of them would cover that space well and would run you around $600, probably a little better light, being modular and allowing you to customize your spectrum at no additional charge.

With Mars-Hydro what is the best way to order? Straight from their website or if at auction, what sellers back the warranty?

Don't buy Chinese? I've got 4 Mars Hydro lights. My pair of 300 watt lights have been running flawlessly for a year now, and have a three year warranty. Like anything, you just need to do your homework and find who makes a good product. Solar Flare are nice for sure, price is totally ridiculous!

A 300-400 watt light would work great in that space. I'm running a single 300 watt in a 3'x3'x5' space and it lights it perfectly.

I'm leaning toward the Mars Hydro old style 300 (100X3). They are selling dirt cheap right now, and I think it would be a great way to dip into led. Just looking to get some more solid nugs compared to the t5.

I'm thinking the 100x3 would be a good bet for me as well but without the bloom booster of the reflector series I'm not sure it would be that good of a bet but I'm not an led expert so that's why I am here

It just dawned on me today popping some seeds it's going to be mid may before they finish :( and I hope I can keep them cool enough by then running my 600 watt hps

Mars has a sales representative here on AFN with her own Mars Hydro thread. If you go with Mars get a price through her, sometimes a few bucks cheaper than on their website and you've established a relationship with someone directly from the company. Nice to have a go to person. Here's a link if you haven't seen it. Warranty from Mars is 3 years. On Ebay 1 year.
