I have been researching the different types of COB's in order to decide whether to buy ready made one's from Timber/Rapid/Cobshop or build my own units. I can't seem to find what the difference between these cobs is.
Does anyone know?

Ahh...that makes a whole lot of sense!! Thanks @Kingflipper

Advantage being you can pump more watts through each equalling more lumens, par watts and such the stuff you want.

Yep, orrganic is right. I should've been more specific. Reading it again my reply kinda came off a bit snappy sounding and I apologize. I like how citizen labels their cobs. All the numbers refer to the rows and columns of diodes on each chip. 1212,1218,1818,1825... I think even now there is a 2536 that can run up to 500 Watts, but there over a hundred bucks each. 1212s 1218s and 1818s all are great. Have a good day all

Haha. No worries @Kingflipper. I didn't think you were snappy. To the point answers are appreciated. There should be a standardization of LED nomenclature. Every company has a different way of describing their chips and it gets way too confusing when selecting the ones for your need. It's impressive that there's a 500W COB out there...overkill though. Thanks @orrganic.

Yeah, I think the 2536s are more suited for locomotive or barge lighting lol. If I ever end up with the spare cash to play around with 1 or 2, I may experiment a little with them. I've got a decent amount of height to work with in one area

Best bet is to download each product specification sheet and get fammilliar with the terms, labels, names and such and before you know it you can understand most of it at a glance.

Citizen are great a 500w chip does sound overkill and subject to efficacy loss' though and at 100 bucks you could pump potentially more w than that through x2 Vero 29s at around 40-50 $ each.
