Hey AFN,

I've been curious, and tried looking around the web and the forum, but either I'm typing in the wrong keywords (most likely), or there is very little to no information.

Each set of seeds I have ordered from various websites, are together inside an Altoids can, in a ziploc bag.
What I mean is; I have seeds I have ordered from Single Seeds Centre in an Altoids can, seeds from Attitude SeedBank in a separate Altoids can, and seeds from RCMC in a separate Altoids can. (All seeds are in their original bags they came in.) Then placed all in a ziploc bag, then into the refrigerator.

My question is, is that how do you guys and gals start germinating seed(s) when they're placed into a storage area? Would it be safe to start germinating immediately after taking them out of the fridge?
Or leave the seeds I want to start growing in a dark, cool, unrefrigerated area for a day or two?

Really don't think it matters.

I think if you take them from the fridge then by the time you prep everything for the germination they will be fine to start.

I'm sure someone will be along with a load of scientific nonsense to say I'm wrong and give you a long drawn out process to follow.
Lol

You m ust do this :

1. stand on your head at exactly half past the moon
2. sing a song in 3 keys
3 run around a mulberry bush 7 times with your eyes crossed

Seriously though ...

After you've taken them from the fridge wait 12 hours before putting them in your glass of water or whatever your germ technique is.

I don't know about altoids cans, do they have crystals to remove moisture ? If not probs best to get a dessicated bag thingy and stick that in the ziplock while storing seeds.

All the best,

steely

I germ mine in the soil. Straight from the frig to the soil...:Sharing One: its pretty much that simple... Best of luck

Thanks a bunch guys! I usually germinate in a slightly wet paper towel, inside a tupperware. That's how I did it with the Northern Lights Auto I'm currently growing.

The seeds are in their original ziploc bags they came in, and I've placed them inside an Altoids can to separate the seeds from which company I have bought them from, so I can keep them organised. The Altoids cans are also inside a ziploc bag.
So it goes: Seed inside small ziploc bag -> Altoids can -> bigger ziploc bag -> refrigerator

I drop my seeds into room temp shot glass of RO water.
If the seeds came from a cold location, the room temp RO would warm up cold seeds in seconds.
Once I see the start of white tails, I plant.

Steely, you cheeky little monkey!! You didn't tell Ducky to wave a dead chicken over the pots to drive away the evil sprites from Ganjaland. You should know better my friend. Shame on ya!
Ducky, the paper towel method is absolutely fine. Yes I would bring it all up to room temp and then keep 'em moist and at room(or just above) temp. Works every time for me. But I would not argue with Stylez, each to their own.

Don't forget the chicken dance !! eP. good luck pal.
