I've had the user name Archaic since the mid 90s. I needed a nick for a chess forum I modded in 1995. I'm a geologist and I picked the nick as a tribute to what i was studying while I was in college.

Mine is a play on Baphomet and my real name. I've been a lifelong student of the occult and esoterica (I'm really not as far out there as that my lead you to believe, it's mostly academic/historical and it's a fascinating subject!) Plus I'm a Freemason and although the Baphomet figure has little to nothing to do with the fraternity, it has been linked to it by others ever since the Leo Taxil hoax and it stuck. So I thought, "Screw it. I'll own it!"
