if you create a gap between the base of the netpot and the water level it encorages corded roots, what you want is as many feeder roots in the res as possible for maximum uptake of nutrients, this is why my white sirius is emptying her res so quickly because the majority of her roots are all feeders
have a look into root growth and structures and you will see what im talking about and you will aslo see why i try and run my res about 1" above the base of the net pots

im just about to give the white sirius another res change made up bloom and micro with the grow nutrient at half dose again, i cant keep up with her appetite so im just gonna do what i have to do, ive kept her ec an 2.2 and ph 5.9
