I'm curious what the reasons are for not pre-grinding your flower in advance of use?

I'm assuming because it's easier for it to dry out. What if you could maintain moisture though?

What other negative consequences could there be and is it possible to mitigate them?

Ever hear of a infinity bottle? It's where people take bottle or decanter and blend different whiskeys together to create new and exciting flavors.

Was thinking of trying same thing except with cannabis. Not only for different flavors but also different beneficial effects.

I guess if you or others still smoke/combust buds, then you probably want to retain some moisture, so you probably want to freshly break-up your 'dried' (not really, only to a certain extent) buds. But I presume by now most consumers use vaporizers (don't they?), or at least among those better informed and more intensive consumers (e.g., AFN members?), and that the lower the water content the better for vaping. Steam formation may be useful with joints, pipes, etc. to reduce burning temperatures, but can only detract from vaporizing.

I see nothing wrong with pre-grinding - nothing is lost. Yes as you note, ground-up cannabis is "easier for it to dry out" (or rather it dries out quicker), presuming it's not sealed up. So whether you want to retain moisture in what you grind or want to keep fully dried powder dry, keep it well sealed.

But for long-term storage and curing, I suggest storing whole 'dried' buds at the recommended rH levels.

I use a vaporizer myself and pre-grinding a bunch up at once would be more convenient and I would be able to collect kief quicker from the grinder.

So your saying as long as it's stored properly there should be no difference?

Yes, particularly in the short term, as long as 'dried' ground or sieved material is sealed/stored properly, I would not expect any negatives, particularly for vaping.

Or rather then pre-grinding and storing, consider using your grinder as your constant, more real-time source. Presuming it's a hand-held or other multi-layer grinder (or hashmaking sieves), put your 'dried' buds at the top and grind a fresh supply daily or whenever.

Awesome thanks so much!
