Lighting Xbox one CPU heatsink covert to citizen clu048 1212.

So these are a rather nice looking heatsink and fan and no I didn't destroy and Xbox just for the unit haha.

I used one driver out of my mars ref 48 seeing as I destroyed the switch terminal for the bloom setting haha.

I tested it in a 85 x 55cm space and it lit right up!

And here's both my units lighting my 1m2 tent. One is 200w through three 1212's and second is the xbox heatsink running a guess of 80w through one.

I know its probably and inefficient set up with the cob to driver ratio but its been a long time coming and I'm happy with it for now. Once I restock on materials I might run six instead of three on the larger unit. In saying that my next purchase will more than likely be passive heatsinks to suit and a framing system. I'm hooked! @Waira do i qualify for a tech freak badge?

Ive only felt the smallest bit of warmth on the copper pipes so far, I have a temp gum so I'll get back to you.. I dare say the things good for 100w. I heard the average for a cpu sink is 90w.

You drive 1212 at 80W? Better get 1818 or 1825 (20 bucks more).

I am at the moment. The 1212's where the highest power available to me for a good price, I needed them to get the ball rolling. The next source for higher power chips has crees and another brand I'll need to look into further, so its a large price jump. My plan is to invest in pin sinks to suit 1212s and run all 8 cobs on the 200w meanwell to spread the load and increase efficiency hopefully I only have to drop $100 on sinks, then when all permits I'll upgrade to some more powerful chips.

Its running cool as anything mid 20's everywhere, the only time the temp gun measured 40+ was measuring the light emitting surface itself. The driver can run 2.6 cobs I think. But that's too hard too fix another cob somehow so I'll probably just buy a higher power chip. I'm not even sure the output of the driver is 80w either.

1212s are badass chips for the price imo, keep them cool and you can drive them hard with much less loss than cree chips.

They are great, I've found some for $5-10 shipped! Just having the fan cord is a tad annoying.

Haha thanks Big. The upgrade took a while but im finally there. You've been a big inspiration for me to actually get active in spreading the knowledge. Much respect!

They were a very good deal for the light they provide, main reason I'm running them. But your right, I need to change the config from three to six to ensure efficiency!
