Hydrated lime will raise the pH faster than dolomite. But caution must be exercised as too much can be toxic and burn the roots. If you want to go that route I can help you out with the proper amounts to feed.

Fox Farms has had some quality issues over the past year or so and we've seen some wide variations in pH right out of the bag. I would suggest you check local garden centers or green house supply stores and see if you can't find some Pro Mix or Sunshine Mix.

i went ahead and ordered the dolomite lime (ph of 7 i believe?)

i was looking into the hydrated lime -- but everywhere i read said that it was too high of a ph (around 14?)

that scared me -- i did not want to burn my already burned plants -- but i should have known that you would be here to help!

i think i just got some bad quality soil -- luck of the draw i guess..

do you suggest re planting at this stage of the grow?

i was thinking of just letting it continue and see where it takes me -- just taking it as a trial and error experience.

already looking into my next soil (something simple for a beginner)

read good things about the soils you suggested:

1) sunshine #4
2) pro mix

the 3rd option would be fox farm ocean forest

with this 3 soils would it be better to mix em with dolomite lime? or are they ok as they are per bag?

The higher pH of the hydrated lime is what makes it effective as a quick fix for low pH. That's also why it's important to not over do it. Usually 1 treatment at 1 tablespoon per gallon of feed is sufficient to raise the pH back up to a good level. Dolomite is good for mixing into your soil mix before planting as it takes longer to become effective.

No, I wouldn't transplant them now. Your plants already have an established root system and transplanting at this point would stunt them even more. Remember that a plant has as much growth below the soil as above.

I'm no fan of OF soil. Have seen too many quality issues in the past year or so since they exhausted their original source of materials and have been farming it out. Have seen very low pH right out of the bag. Pro Mix, and I'm pretty sure the Sunshine #4, both already contain sufficient lime so no additional is needed unless it is being heavily amended with something like worm castings, composted manure or guano.

or i might just finish up my ffof/hf mix + add some dolomite lime.

we shall see when that time comes

looking to add some dolomite lime to balance out the ph issue next watering.

how should i add it?

1) add lime on top of soil then add the phed water?
2) mix the dolomite lime in water then to the plants?

is it 1 tbsp per gallon of soil/water?

help would be highly appreciated as always.

quick notes:

released the lst before watering -- just a little stretch for the plants

added some dolomite lime as a topper/dressing for both plants
- roughly 1 tbsp per gallon of soil

not sure how long it will take for the lime to work -- sooner the better.

hopefully by the next watering.

Flip ya Bro!!!! Looking really nice. How are the smelling? My NYC is just reeking up my man -cave!!!!! Smells like coffee/skunk/something dead,,LOL. I'm thinking we are running neck and neck age wise and she will be really bad by the time the chop comes! WW smells almost citrusy,,,surprised with that. Getting hairier by the day overhere. Wish the best for your girls and I'll stop back in next week to see,,,"What up"!!!
