Lighting 250w HPS on seedlings

I've grown autos in temps up to 35 celsius (95 farenheit) with no probs (apart from me sweating over the plants!).

The hand test that nam mentioned as the first reply to the OP is the way to go.

250 Watt Hps seems a bit much for seedlings! Wouldn't 2 or 3 26 watt CFL's be more practical I would think.
