Grow Room 65 true watt ufo, 42 watt cfl micro cab med grow

Update: temps have been a little low this week, but still putting on good growth. Week 3 flower for sinsi star. Seedlings are coming along, but a little slow.

This is supposed to be indica dominant royal medic, but it looks to be pure sativa, and growing slower than her sisters. Do sativas like growing warmer than indicas. What do you guys think?

Hey man all is looking good in here.:d5:

Might just be how the seedling is looking at the moment for that royal medic, it might start looking more indica as it gets bigger.
Or maybe you got a more sativa dominant pheno.

I think generally sativas are more tolerant to heat and indicas are more tolerant to cold.
I think ideal temps are 68-78F.

Do you know what your humidity is at?
If its too low, below 40 i think might be too low then that might slow them down along with the colder temps which slows plants down for sure.
I think 40-70rh in veg and 35-50 in flower, not sure.
Im still learning too only on my third grow so will have to see what others with more experience say about it though.

:pop:

Thanks Smorf, yeah the box has been in the high 60's all week. I hope the royal medic does turn out sativa dominant. I like a little variety. I've just never seen a seedling with such skinny leaves that young. This week should be warmer, I'll bet that will help the royal medic, and the other girls. As for humidity, I would say it is ok, but I have no way to measure it.

Hi Rae, it's a home made grow box. I got the cabinet from the thrift store for $20. Every thing else was from ebay and hardware store. The 150 watt ufo seems to be perfect for my size box. I've got 20 inches from soil to light. The 216 watt ufo I was originally using was a little to strong for the 20 inch distance. That's ok though. Gives me an exscuse to build a taller box in the future.:smoking:

A few small space experiences - don't worry about fungus gnats - reduce humidity and keep the top of the pots dry (bottom water but don't leave the base wet). Take plants out daily and give them a shake to knock off any juveniles, then do a wee cabinet clean up, they like dark crevices so I use a car hoover thing to suck em out from around fans. After about 10 days you should have got rid of most of em (there's always one)...

Temps....

In small spaces this is the way I'm starting to explain it...

Tiny seedling(s) and full lights << well entropy dictates that all those photons will become 'heat' >> and so your temps might start higher.
While vigorously growing and stretching plants are converting a lot of energy into plant mass (absorbing the energy) so temps drop.

I would estimate a fluctuation of about 2degC that I can attribute to this effect in my cabinet.

I'm doing a re-design for a slightly larger space than yours << but like the design/concept of a filter/baffle on the passive intakes < I'd need larger intakes so am just 'a light trapped hole' at the moment. Difficult to tell what you are using - just an air baffle - or something carbon coated?

The wife thru down a gauntlet and asked me to 1/2 the cooling noise << already use acoustic ducting and LEDs, 12V Silent Fans << so I'm thinking I could just add something to her ear drops....

and maybe some passive vent baffles lol...

Shame my space doesn't lend itself to making the filter a 'design' feature << and as an x-design lecturer I commend you highly for this 'feature' << I'm sure it will inspire others to think along similar lines.

Hi Spliffscot, I to wanted to keep fan noise down as much as possible. Last box I built had fans for intake/ exhaust, and just got annoying listing to it all the time. Blowing one fan into the carbon filter, with the passive intakes. Seem to move enough air through the box. With the noise being cut in half. All you hear is air flowing through the carbon filter. No fan noise. All the noise is contained in box. I did have to take both ends off the carbon filter and silicon glue each end for air tight seal. The passive intakes are just some kind of aquarium filter. You can find them at the pet store. No carbon. Just to keep dust out, and block light, and noise from getting out of box. Hope the info helps for the re-design. Got to keep the wife happy if you want to grow in the house. Happy wife = happy life:jointman:
