I bought some fox farm ocean forest soil. I checked my run off and was in the low 4's(run off is the only way I can check the ph). I watered with ph at around 8.5 and run off was still low. Is two table spoons to a gallon to much lime?

I don't think so. Recentley I have found about dolomite from a grower and he advised me to use that. 2 tbls/gallon.

Hi Faded... sorry to hear yet another grower getting--literally-- burned by Fux Farms shwag soils,....they used to be my go-to soil, but this last year or so, even on the west Coast close to the home company, I got very acidic bags of both Ocean Forest and Happy Frog,... both were low 5's in the bag, according to my Accurate 8 soil probe! Inexcusable...to even let that shit leave the yard... :slaps: It's a very common complaint we hear around AFN, and elsewhere....sometimes, other folks get bags that are okay..:dunno:.... I'd just plain bring it back, if you can,.... if not, adding dolomite will help down the road, like 2-3 weeks before it's starts acting,... when I got my bag's, I had to treat them with hydrated lime, which is very fast acting, but is powerful stuff and should be used most carefully,... Bonide makes a great product, in a smaller bag size too, so you're not buying 25lbs of the stuff! ..dosing sounds okay for dolomite, but read the manufacturers label to be sure,... some companies alter it, reformulating it for faster action, other just give you the straight rock,... particle size is very important,... the more course it is, the slower it acts.... best stuff is very fine to near powdered,....:goodluck:

..forgot to add: great soil company-- Sanctuary Soil and Feed, their Empire Builder and Victory blends,...wonderfully amended, and not too hot like OF!

The grow store I go to only had ff or a bail of sun shine mix so for what I had in my pocket I had to go with ff. I wanted Dr.earth but they stopped selling it. I bought 4 pounds from a seller on ebay. I haven't opened the bag yet but it is see through and looks really fine, like powder.. Thanks for getting back to me man.

Add some dolomite to the soil. don't be stingy add a few cups at least to the whole bag.

I was thinking of just adding some to what I'm going to use. I guess I could just do the whole bag.

Here's some good info on ph.....
If your runoff pH is higher than your starting pH, use this equation to determine your soil pH:*
Soil pH = Runoff pH + Difference

If your runoff pH is lower than your starting pH, us this equation:
Soil pH = Runoff pH - Difference.

For example, say your the starting pH of your solution before it goes in is 6.5 and the pH of your runoff is 7.0. The difference is +0.5, so using the above equation:
Soil pH = 7.0 + 0.5*
Soil pH = 7.5

If your starting pH is 6.5 and your runoff is 6.0, your difference is -0.5 and using the above equation:
Soil pH = 6.0 - 0.5
Soil pH = 5.5

Awesome man. After adding the lime should I wait a little while before planting in the soil or is it okay to go ahead and plant?

yea dolomite and some per-lite will help a lot. im not sure how big of a bag you got but 4 cups of lime and per lite will get ya going. I have been using my ff of for awhile now its stabilized and i have grown a lot of auto flowers with the same soil so its really kickin in ..

I want to try potters gold.. next year.. a PH of 4 is just unreal!!
