New Grower AF seedlings browning on lower leaves progressing quickly to the top leaves?

I was wondering what type of deficiency is this or is there something else going on?
The seedlings are ~ 3 weeks old from the day the seeds cracked. They are in a vermiculite/perlite/earthworm castings soil-less mix. No mold detected, I have been giving them willow water, and earthworm castings tea too. Time to fertilize? Thank you!

Hi Toke.

Oh dear she does look a little sad!
It's almost definitely not time to fertilize, if anything the tips look nute burned already (possibly due to the tea?) I'm not sure what that mix is and where the PH sits.

Have you accidently let the leaves sit on the wet medium?
My best guess is the PH may be unfriendly to the plant or over nute!

Others will be along to chime in and help out here i'm sure!

I don't know the pH now but when I tested the soilless mix it was at 6.4. My pH probe is no good just found out a few minutes ago so I just ordered another one. I was wondering growth was very slow for 3 to 3 & 1/2 weeks. The leaves have never touched the soil. Stems are strong. The medium is damp so I'm gonna lay off the watering for a day or so.

The addition of the worm castings would make that a soil mix, not a soil less one. Depending what percentage of worm casting you used, you could have made the mix a bit to strong for seedlings. Then giving tea on top of that could have resulted in the burn associated with over feeding. If your soil mix is indeed at 6.4, the I would suggest only giving them plain water pHed to around 6.4 until you see new leaves that are free of any signs of over feeding. Then slowly start to reintroduce the tea at a very mild rate. Remember that autos can be nutrient sensitive so always best to start low and work up.

Ph may well be ok- the growth - other than burn- doesn't look twisted or deformed by lockout like you might see in little guys like that.

I was going with A) nute burn from what sounds like a hot mix, plus tea

And B) letting the leaves remain in contact with the wet/ "hot" medium.


Get em dry (let the medium dry out!!). Go with phd water only for a bit. Hang in there and go slow. Big changes are often more lethal than patience in these situations. Good luck.

Thank you all for the help...I'm going to let the medium dry and pH my water it's slightly acidic ~ 6.9. Yeah I'm growing regular and fem seeds along with AF fems. A lot of careful work needed lol. Muddy - I only add ~ 25% castings, 50% vermiculite & 25% perlite. All my regs and fems love it. The AFs however seem to be slow going. They are Vision AK 48s btw if that makes a difference
