Extraction Beware of cheap glass tubes

I'm with A4 and cres on this... no point in doing ANYTHING that compromises your health or safety.

additionally:
I wouldn't use anything but 316 stainless for BHO extraction if I wasn't going to use glass.

The only reason copper was brought up is because it is the only other material widely recognized as safe for alcohol production. Alcohol being a solvent just as n-butane. I wouldn't consider it safe for BHO either.

I understand you are only talking about BHO but you have to consider that anything that is extracted in the process is going to be inhaled, which is the quickest was to get something into your blood stream other than intravenous. Have you ever looked at the steel piping that is sold at Lowes or Home Depot? Most are soaked in oil to prevent rust, some are painted and some are oil quenched in order to harden them. In all cases, the butane will extract the oil from the pipe that you are using.

The other problem with saying I would recommend using steel pipe is, there are so many different types of steel. You have black iron, alloy steel, black steel, carbon steel, iron steel, mild steel, galvanized steel, stainless steel and the list goes on. None of them are considered food grade except stainless and if it isn't food grade then I wouldn't use it.

I don't expect you to believe me but I would say this. Call up a reputable piping dealer or if you have a friend that works as a pipe fitter or boiler maker in a local around you area, call them and ask them. Tell them you are considering using a pipe to extract essential oils for aromatherapy and you want to know what would be the best piping to use in this case. Something that someone will be breathing on a regular basis. See what they say.

Push SAFE!!!

Molly & I have been pushing BHO for a number of years and have done some careful researching for the same reasons 1) safety of process, 2) safety of finished product, 3) quality of finished product. That said, while I believe glass is the "cleanest" medium to use, it can AND WILL shatter, and there are some true fuckin' morons out there claiming to be glass blowers, using the cheapest glass they can find. There are most definately some fine glass products available. What we have come up with has worked IN THE MOST EXCELLANT FASHION!!!. Empty medicine jars. The brownish, plastic bottles that most pharmacies dispense medication in. Medical grade plastic, doesn't degrade from light , water, OR exposure to butane. And since some of Mollys cancer meds are in HUUUGGGGEE bottles, we got 'em in sizes that'll hold 15 gr. up to about 2 oz. Take a small metal tool, heat it up and melt a small hole in the bottom of the jar for your butane nozzle, wrap your filter around the mouth end and HAVE AT IT!!!. We pushed 26 1/2 gr. yesterday (1 1/2 gr. shy of an oz.) of some beautifully grown, expertly manicured, Az grown OG Kush and got a 4.7 gr. return. THEN the purge process starts. I use a heat gun and my "Food Saver" canister and machine to repeatedly heat / melt the ball of goodness and then put it in the sealer canister and vacuum purge it....over & over & over. If you're doing pushes and are leery about glass tubes or other materials (really...stay the fuck away from metals & alloys), give the amber brown, medical pill bottles a try. And hey,if you do try them....let us know!!! Puff, puff, pass

Having been a glass blower I have to say the idea of using glass to make oil has always been scary to me. Just the extreme temperature changes of freezing glass are enough over time to cause it to fracture and then combine that with pressure :O It is a product that over time will always fail and sometimes dangerously. Get the steel tubes with valves on either end. You'll get more yield and cleaner extractions.

I saw one made from a stainless steel turkey baster. Found a nice one cheap at Bed Bath and Beyond.
