I purchased a flat iron to try this rosin tek. The sticky got me interested.

Some research indicated kipozi brand was well liked for this process. They have one and a one and three quarters inch options for plate sizes and they are titanium.

I bought the hand clamp to get better pressing power and on the very first use I broke the housing on the iron.
I intended to throw it away but I changed my mind and figured out a way to use it.

If you decide to do this to yours, I've only done it with this particular model. I assume they are mostly built the same but you might have a different outcome with a different brand/model. You will be potentially exposing yourself to exposed wires by removing the housing. Unplug when taking apart and be extra careful when operating.

You can see the housing destroyed by the clamp.

I opened the iron up and removed the metal plates from the housing and sawed through with a hacksaw.

The metal triangles are springs that sit under the plates. I put the iron back together and was left with two dangling plates.

The clamp had some pieces removed and magnets glued in.

The space in which the magnets reside was home to hinges which I burnt out with a hot bolt.

I set the iron on a box or something and set up some oven pads.

It says 250 but I went with 270 or 280.
The clamp is brought in and the magnets keep things in order.

Good time to mention gloves. Wear one.

You can layer them if need be.

I compacted about ten grams into a cylinder and cut into small pieces.

Squish
Once I have it clamped I usually pick it up so I can apply more pressure.

I let it run about thirty seconds each.

Some experimentation required. Position, temperature and time can all be played with to try and get better results. I got .6g just doing one squish per piece. If I squished a second time I probably would have extracted more.

Paperwork is piling up around here

I used a glass blood collection tube as a rosin stamp. Worked really well. Trying to scrape up with a metal tool always stinks for me.

And when you are done, squirty squirty some hot water in there to remove.
