New Grower Blue Mystic First Grow

Wow! Feeling a Lotta love from the treehuggers! Haha! Thank you :)

Eyes, I'm going to let you last post percolate in my brain a bit, then I may come back at ya with some more questions. Thank you for sharing your wisdom.

Fuggzy, thanks for the reply on the creepy crawlies. I was so surprised to see that little guy. Problem is I don't know the good guys from bad guys when it comes to bugs.

I started to bend her over today. Thinking I'll go as far down as I without breaking the main stem.Thinking I should do it incrementally over a few days. Her odor is getting a little stronger. She's 15.5" tall tonight. Here are a couple of before and after pictures. Also a few of the bottom leaf set bud sites. I adjusted the tension on all four branches. I'm surprised at how much theyvery grown since last week.

I picked up some epsom salt tonight. She'll need water in about 2-3 days so at this point I'm thinking of going half strength with a tomato tone topping and watering it in with some light molasses water. Unless someone can help me with a better plan. Should I mix in some epsom salt too?

Peace.

You guys rock! :headbang:

I checked on big sister this morning and her main bud site is already starting to point up again. I increased the tension slightly to pull her down a bit more. Peace.:peace:

Heya CG420

Nice looking bend you got going on there. If you feel like the part you are bending is to stiff, or might break, try to massage the stem. You can pinch it a bit, and roll it in your fingers, not a lot of pressure. Think of it like twisting your back to loosen up the muscles, not to crack the spine. You can also give it small bends up and down the area you plan on folding over. Hold the stem with 2 fingers, and lightly press the stem between them with your thumb in the direction you want to go, again being gentle. I learned on my first large stem LST that gentle is the key. I split a girl right down the center about 2". Luckily she was a photo and recovered.

You may not need this now as you plants roots are established. A good practice is to put a counter tie on the opposite side. Normally you would only need 1 at the root base. This helps prevent riping the plant out of the soil, and keep the stem in place so it bends, and not just lean. It may make it easier if you did a counter tie about 1/2 up the plant on the opposite side of the bend now. If you are not having any troubles though, run with what you are doing. She looks great.

:pass:

I gave big sis some food and water yesterday. I top dressed with 1-1/2 tsp tomato tone (half the recommended amt), and 1/4 tsp epsom salt. Watered it in with some molasses water and a bit of full on.
Here are some new pics. How do her bud sites look for her age? She's five weeks old today.

Plant looks good. If you want the plant to stay short next time I would suspend your lights from a power strip on Y splitters and get it a few inches from the top of the plant as soon as it sprouts. Make sure you have a light breeze on the lights or you will burn the plant but if done right it will help keep the plant from stretching as much. I have had plants like almost touching the lights with a fan throwing a light breeze on the bulbs for cooling in the past. I tested the ballasts behind the bulbs before with fan and with out and temps were around 78* with fan on bulb and I shut them off when they reached 140+ and started to smell with out the fan. I would also try to fit about 6, 26W bulbs on the strip if you can get more bulbs and keep them on the strip for at least the first 3 weeks of growth. It will help cure your stretching problem. Had some killer grows in the beginning with this set up when I first started out.

I thought I'd show my set up. It's a giant plastic tote painted flat white on the inside and black on the outside. I recently changed the lighting so they are more adjustable. The power strip are zip tied to the sides. Those little plastic clamps are my friends. Ive been using random CDs to raise and lower the pot. I also like the fams. They have USB and standard corded plugs. I did not want to rig an old computer fan. These are made for AV ccabinets so they run fairly quiet and they can be daisy chained.Next time I ll do something different with the inside because the paint has been chipping. Grrrrr....

Now for a brief update on big sis. I've noticed some of the bottom leaves are getting slightly spotted light green and some of her hairs are turning red/orange. Is this normal for her age or is this a sign something is wrong? I think she is just starting to flower because I noticed a small spot on a bud site that is starting to look like, well bud. Haha! She is also starting to smell a little stronger. I can't get good pictures to show any of this yet because my camera stinks:(

Has anyone grown blue mystic autofems before? I'm thinking I'm at least half way to harvest if I can get her there.

You have one of the coolest home made grow boxes I have seen I a while. I never thought about using a tote before. Good idea. I stack my plants on what ever I can get ahold of too. I have never used CDs because all my music is on I-pod but I use to use my wife's books and movies :)
