Blumats and megacrop ok together?

I need to get a system set up ASAP as I’ll be limited in my ability to care for a little while but really don’t wanna run outta pain Meds. Will this valve work as it’s not clear to allow light and algae to thrive.

Any aquarium supply or even most pet stores should have fully-usable opaque valves, tubing, etc. Algae growth problems in valves, tubing, etc. used for aquiria are essentially same as with hydroponics.

Another aquarium crossover idea...I remember when I was looking at salt water tanks a while back that there are guys with bigger tank setups that will setup big, Rubbermaid type trash cans in their garage with a R/O water filter setup to feed it to have filtered water ready to go for their tanks. Always thought it would be interesting to do a similar setup as the feed reservoir for a large Tropf-Blumat grow using water only, TLO type soils.

Ok...these are a little nicer tanks than using trash cans...but same idea. Most salt water aquarium folk will have two tanks...one for filtered water and one they use to mix the salt into the water in.

Aerating a single res will cause problems. The air bubbles will get into the smaller 3mm line and stop the flow. What I did was ran a pump in mine that actually stirred up the res more than aerated it. It did stop the stagnant water problem.

What I have is a 25 gallon res with air stones and a pump that pumps to an elevated bucket. The bucket has a return line so I don’t have to manually turn anything on or off. The pump is on a timer that kicks on for 5minutes every 3 hours. This keeps the larger res mixed and aerated and also stops these little air bubbles from getting stuck in the lines. The 5 gallons is more than enough to feed the group for 3 hours as well as helps maintain a steady pressure. If more force is on a sensor from a freshly filled res it could actually force feed it a little and cause leaks.


It is really a simple thing to setup too. My 25 gallon res also turned into a 30 gallon res now.

On the left is a 1/2” in and a 3/4” return. Bottom is the 8mm blumat line and a 1/2” hand water line. I do use this to flush plants if needed too. Just do so when both reservoirs are empty so I can use straight water.

Here is the 25 gallon res. There lines going in and out to the bucket. Smaller lines in the back are for 3 air stones all set at different heights. I also have 2 lines going in to this res for fresh water. One is direct to the res and another ( the looped one on the front right) is for filling jars or wherever I need water for.

That's legit. I thought you might be running a dual rez setup from early on in the thread just forgot to mention it. So 25g rez feeds 5 gal rez via pump n timer. Is that correct? Is there a return anywhere in your system including the actual lines?

The only thing that REALLY hurts blumats is the lack of info on setting them up. I have it down to a science now but it did take awhile. I am having a bit of a dilemma since I do like to help others here and I was also planning on doing a guide for them but the guys at sustainable village really upset me and I don’t want to support their product.

I have a fairly complex setup. My 15 valves that start and stop each plan are transparent and keep getting clogged as algae grows in them. So twice a grow I need to blow them out. In the past grows I came in to nearly dead plants more than once. My own fault I suppose. I asked them for advice and they told me to just buy the other version that’s not clear. So after promoting them and already owning $60 in valves I’d need to now spend 75 on another type. I asked if they could at least send me a discount code. Not being cheap but what do I do with the others? They replied promptly to every message besides the discount request.

Did u try painting the valves or making a cover? Im envious of the fancy valves ur rockn , i usually just use a clothes pin to pinch off the 3mm line.

I was scared of the same thing so i put a fish aquarium filter pump w out the filter to make a waterfall in the res but never got around to running nutes. I always ran a dead res water only w organic soil.....

Did u try painting the valves or making a cover? Im envious of the fancy valves ur rockn , i usually just use a clothes pin to pinch off the 3mm line.

I just ended up getting new valves. Not to happy with sustainable village though. I brought them the problem and they didn’t offer any help or even discount on the new ones. I asked too. Now I have a pile of expensive valves.
