Hi again, another question for them what knows. I made my first bubble hash recently. When I came to smoke some of the shiny black good stuff, it was kind of weird. It bubbles when heated in a pipe and then becomes seriously sticky - like tar. Iv never known hash be like this before.
Have I done something wrong here?

It has been dried fully?
Was it made in a gumby style or with a set of proper bags?
Great quality bubble will bubble up when heat is applied, but when burnt there will be little to nothing left on screen.
If the smoke has cleared and you left with gooey mess when burnt, chances are its poor quality.

Thanks for the reply.
that gives me a lot to think about. The weed was a decent enough plant, Toffee Banana. It was about a year old. I used a three bag generic bubble bag set. It only contained bud. I was confident it was dry and then I cold pressed it for about an hour. It did bubble as I smoked it in a pipe, but it left behind a sticky black lump. I doubt I will ever get it off the mesh on the pipe. Do you think it might not have been fully dry?

Did you soak the buds in the cold water before agitating it? Fresh frozen needs to be soaked for 10-20min, but dry bud I let soak for at least 30 - 45min before I even start to agitate the water. The dryer your material and the harder you agitate the more fine particles that will end up in the final product.

It was all dry bud. I soaked in iced water for 45 minutes before I started agitating it. Followed the bubble recipe and did it again ,and then dried the residue over night before pressing it. I think I toasted my vape with it too! :) Dont know how Im gonna get that mess out! :)

Reading between the lines, or what you did'nt say.
No mention of the 3 grades, or 3 runs.
So im guessing you maybe bundled 3 grades together, and just did one long run?
Residue = plant material
1st run for a few minutes, clean the bags into 3 piles-this should be A grade stuff, or 1 of the bags should be killer.
2nd run 5-10 mins, clean the bags into 3 piles-this should be not quite as good as 1st run.
3rd run for as long as you like to get ever last thing you can out of it-1 bag will be more or less junk,1 bag cooking grade, another could smoke at a pinch.
1st run should be cleanest, or free from plant material 3rd will conatain some plant matter.
53/74,90 microns or whatever your set might be , 1 bag will hold the most trich heads, another brocken heads and the other will be capitate trich stalks. Deters strain to strain what size the heads are.
Getting in with a scope can be handy.

Did you press the bubblehash with a rosin press? If so, what mesh size of bags did you use? How hot did you go and how hard did you press?
No Rosin press.
I used a three bag bubble set. I only used the smaller two bag grades to gather residue. I then did another run, second run product was kept in the same two piles Agrade and Bgrade. Press is a hand turned job, I squeezed it down pretty tight and left it for about an hour. The product I got out looked the part, though it was very hard.

I did two runs and each run gave me one pile of a grade and one of b grade. I only mixed the first and the second A and B with the first A and B, leaving me with two grades. A and B.
I feel like I made a good product, but I dont understand why it bubbles like it does or why it is so super sticky when heated. I mean like super dooper sticky!

yeah, that's your problem. By using only the smaller mesh sizes you don't separate the trichomes from the plant material. I suggest you watch the following youtube clips from Frenchy (RIP). It's quite the watch...But oh so worth it. Take notes at what he uses and try to make it your own. I'm not saying you should buy a washing machine, freeze dryer or bubblebags that cost 200$ a set, but rather look at the way he keeps everything cool, what he does when he's done sieving.

This man is/was a god and had so many knowledge when it came to making hashish... Hey was the real deal bro!!!
