Mephisto Genetics Can I sow my seeds sideways instead of pointy end down?

Man, what does it take to get people to get active in a thread? Do I need some bud porn instead of sprout porn? Well, it isn't going to happen for a while.

Why don't we wager on how much these two will yield? :vibe:

Part of lack of responses could be due to most everyone (like me) presuming that seeds will sprout and grow no matter what orientation planted (which is the way it works in nature); but nobody really knows what is best, so they have nothing to add, at best may just report how they do it.

Also, the topic is a totally individualized "Can I sow my...." question vs. a title seeking to raise a broader discussion of the topic.

For real answers about seed/sprout positioning we should ask seed company reps. If seeds did better oriented a particular way, they would surely know. They would need to account for or standardize this in their strain/seed development programs and quality control testing.

Honestly, I just just joking about this.

You want 100% germ rates? Easy. Skip paper towels and soaking and all that weird stuff that has not much to do with nature. Invest in a rapid rooter kit with the plastic cell holes for starter plugs. Place tray on included seed heat mat, thoroughly soak the plugs, use the clear top till they poke out. Another trick for older seeds is to score them with a razor blade to help them escape. Store your seeds right, use this gear and you too will have 99.5% success....and it's SO easy. Just drop em in the hole of the plug. Done. Bonus: the plugs buy a little extra room as the youngins have about 5 or 6 days before they need to be rehomed onto their final pot. Everybody should have a proper seed heat mat who grows autos.

Maybe you missed the posts above where i successfully germinated using a seedling mat and GH rapid rooters. I put them in shot glasses though. I do have a tray and dome as well but its not for the rapid rooters. My new girls are in the tray with the dome on but vents open and in my tent right now look very happy.

I will look in to that tray instead of shot glasses though. Thanks for the tips. I was kind of going in that direction anyway, and the two beans did germ so I now going to stick the the RR plugs instead of tissue and baggies.

I've used plugs in shot glasses too. Doesn't work as good. I have NO clue why, but I'm done with that. Even using a piece of Saran wrap to keep the moisture in...lol. Damn plants don't like glass for whatever reason. Maybe? Lol.
