Happy new year everyone!

Quick update with a few pictures below. Noticed some of the leaves have begun to die on the Trident, and the double grape seems to be yellowing up quicker than normal. Possible the cobs are too close?

Also chopping down both Cosmic Queens today, they've been ready to go!

Here is the Trident..

Hi Coolbunny! Happy New Year and happy to see you using Chip on Board LED lights, aka COB’s. The one thing I’ve noticed with these lights is they cause our plants to metabolize food quicker which allows you to feed heavier/more often. I couldn’t figure out why my leafs wouldn’t stay green. Dumped the epson salts and cal mag down my girls throats with no resolution. Then I stumbled on a response from the owner of a nutrient I use and he said to increase the amount of feed to counter the yellowing since they claim their proudcut to be complete with no need for cal mag. Well turns out he was right and while my patience is too short to experiment the ratios to find the right balance, I’m confident that what would be considered over feeding in most cases, is perfectly fine for COB grows. I use 2-2.5 tsp of V+B and they recommend 1.5 as the max on the label. I use 1 tbs of grow more and they recommend 1tsp. See the trend? Our lights plus Recharge puts plants on steroids. Hell anything plus recharge puts plants on steroids in my opinion.

I used Grow More Sea Grow 16-16-16 thru to the first sign of buds (not pistols). Once I had buds, I hit my girls with a bloom booster (Hawaiian B&B by grow more), then feed veg+bloom. Some of the best salts for flower in my opinion. I noticed you’re organic so don’t hesitate to increase the amount of GBD soil in the bottom half to counter the quick devouring of nutrients in the soil.

The goal in my past soil grows is to get that dark green foliage in the veg phase so it can slowly be used during flower. No control though in soil so gotta get the nitrogen in from the start or play the balance act that increases in difficulty due to the shortened lifecycle. I found in soil top dressing autos doesn’t always work fast enough or thoroughly depending on what stage you’re in.

Good luck with your future grows and I look forward to seeing you crush it with COB’s. Don’t forget the kelp! The kelp is key. Can’t explain in depth but grows with are great and without it, no so great.

That's a fascinating bit, thank you for the info! Given the current set up right now, I should be increasing the feed per gallon for the super soil? I do have some veg / flower nutes as well as a bloom booster that I could use to ammend them currently or would thsg be wasteful?

Kelp you say? I am going to run auto's, with autocobs and GBD soil amendment added to Roots organic soil. I also just purchased some Recharge, and was thinking on a purchase of Mammoth P for some nutes later in flower. I thought this might be a "seed to harvest" program. So what type of Kelp, and how would I add to the above regimen? Figured on watering with RO water and Recharge once a week, and just plain RO water the rest of the waterings. Then starting with the first couple weeks of flowering, begin to add some Mammoth P until the final week of flowering just before the chop. Trying to put this all together in my head before starting down the path. Been using the KISS method with photos, and while not growing monsters, the size and quality have always been sufficient versus the effort. TIA.

When I make the full batch of supersoil I add more supersoil to the bottom of the pot. So let’s say GBD says fill bottom 3rd of the pot with amended soil, I’m filling my pot half way with amended soil but only because of the lights. Not defying his suggestions or trying to be better, just noticing the lights make my plants want more. No documented ratios have worked for my grows after feeding recharge. The plants always want more sometimes double.

-I just make a hole deep enough for unamended soil using a paper towel roll.
-Pour the supersoil in the pot to your desired level while holding the paper towel holder in the middle of the pot,
-While the roll is still in the supersoil, pour some unamended soil in the paper towel roll hole to what would be the top of the soil and pot.
-Fill the rest of the pot with unamended soil then pull roll out.

I only use semi organic nutrients and salts in Tupur which is coco fiber. I wouldn’t chance it by adding bottled nutrients to your supersoil but if you’re midway through and things are yellow it won’t hurt. I hesitate to suggest adding liquid nutes to amended soil because I don’t have much experience other than flora nova as far as bottles go. It’s saved my ass a few times.

GBD tailored his mix just to use on autos so it’s just about finding that right balance. 24CT loved Ocean Forest on top and super soil on bottom (pot half filled,2 gal air pot). Will all strains tolerate that? I know cookies won’t. Double Grape took heavy sea grow and vb feeds and Sour Crinkle too so that leads me to think they will need more supersoil at the bottom of the pot when I run it next round. I will be making the full batch. Since you can’t really over feed in organics it’s just about keeping your temps in check, water ph in range and you’re good. Just make sure there’s plenty of food from the beginning or follow GBDs instructions to the letter but be prepared to top dress at day 40 or so. Not because his mix is deficient but because the lights make the plants more efficient.

What isn’t being talked about enough is the ratio of amendments needed while growing with intense lights such as COBS. I think Eyes on Fire or Pops can offer up some good feedback on the subject, as well as all our other No-Till Army, and Organic friends around here. I know they can help you better than I could. I’m a lazy farmer. What’s being experienced by me may be due to my conditions, my water and sheer luck but I got my paper towel roll holder idea from watching eyes on fire’s plastic cup tier system he uses. It also helped spurn the idea of my tiers with airpots.

I use Grow More Seaweed Extract. I follow the instructions on bottle which is 1 tsp to a gallon of water. It can be added to your nutrients but make sure you ph. I found grow more products balance my ph 8 yap water to 6.5-6.1 with no lemon juice to bring it down.

There are lots of different brands to chose from and my research has led me to believe that kelp is kelp. Maxi Crop has a good powder, but when it comes to liquid, grow more is one of the best. They don’t put profits before people and their products are reveered by the Agriculture community.

Re: Mammoth P, I don’t use it, and won’t use it. My personal preference. I think they are a vendor here so I will refrain from conjecture.

Recharge, Seaweeed Extract aka kelp is all I need to keep plants healthy in addition to their feed but also buffer any over feeding that may occur in Tupur. While using any soil amended with GBD supersoil I will use it also. With my COB lights, an overfeed can be as bad as yellow tips or not at all thanks to Seaweed Extract. In some cases without COBs and recharge and overfeed will require flushing. The kelp just helps keep everything symbiotic so to speak. The kelp has also helped keep plants short and bushy and also buffer ph swings longer. Without it my ph swings quicker leading to deficiencies I can’t correct in time or at all. It also helps the buds become more dense over time. No need for a bud hardner. Besides it’s just liquid kelp in those hardening mixtures anyways. :)

The 3 products I mentioned with exception to GBDs soil amendment can be found on the Big A’s site. For the soil growers recharge and kelp is a must have. Or Dragonfly Earth Medicine Lush Roots. Can’t go wrong with either!
