Hi All! I'm trying to get all the info I can before doing this grow. Thank you all SO much for all the time and info you guys share on this site! I've been lurking a few weeks learning and reading as much as I can. I hope to be up and running by the end of Feb.

So, I'm Lila :tiphat: and plan to start actively picking the brains of a lot of you on here. I've never grown before, but am anxious to start. I thought soil/cfl would be where I would be starting, but as I read the threads and journals, I've decided dwc might be better for me. Mainly because it seems the yield is considerably better with dwc. I don't need massive amounts, but I don't like the idea of putting that amount of time in, to only get an oz or less per plant. Am I over simplifying it?

I live in my own house, alone, so I don't have to worry about stealth too much. Venting to the attic will be pretty easy. I have a walk in closet that's 12ft Lx12ft Hx2ftD. I can partition it as much as you all think is necessary. I want to try growing only 2 at a time in 5Gal buckets. Looking at Dutch Passions Think Different, and ABB. I'm comfortable growing only 1 at a time if any of you think the yield would be significant enough. By significant, I mean possibly 4oz or better. Am I being too optimistic for a first time grow?

I see what's been accomplished with LEDs, but they're out of my price range for now. I'm believe CFL'S and/or T5s are the best light for me at the moment. Anyone have experience with dwc/cfl grows? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated guys. Thank you!

Welkome in THE afn show!

Some dwc growtips!

1 More light means more bud.
2 keep your grow-space clean, don't use stuff that starts to rot or causes mold to infest!
3 think About safety of you and surrounding ( smell, electricity)
4 buy quality, in the long-run this Will save you money
5 measure ! Getting your numbers right will get you Nice yields.
: Like Weed:

I Advice you buy

A tent to place 2 big dwc plants would suggests 4 by 4
A decent ph and ec meter.
A temperature controlled extractor fan and carbon filter
A good quality airpump, no air means no oxygine--> plants die

Hey lila, could I ask that you please not double post your intro? You basically posted this same thing in the Introductions forum on Feb 3rd; if you have any specific questions, that's fine to ask and post in here; but we want to try to keep the forum clear of clutter; and having multiple posts with the same thing just gets a little confusing. You're not in trouble or anything so please don't take it that way; just wanted to throw out a friendly mention so we can keep the information on the site running fluid! :Sharing One:

Also, if you have a lot of questions about your grow setup and getting started; why don't you go ahead and start your first grow journal in the New Growers Forum? There's a large group of very specific eyes that watches that forum; since you've never grown it would be a great place to start out; regardless of what method you decide to go with. You can start one thread; ask your questions in it; post pictures of your setup (that's going to get your answers faster than anything,) and ultimately after you get your feet wet and you feel comfortable, a moderator could move the entire thread down to a more appropriate forum if you chose to do so.

Anyways just wanted to mention those things. Hope this finds you well and that today is an answer-filled day to your questions! Take care! :karma Cloud:

I can only add to this: read read and reread all the logs you can find. (try to follow sb logs as he is the autoflower scientist :D ). And start your grow-log in new growers forum, like this you will get all the needed help from the grate ppl of afn community :Sharing One:

welcome to AFN :Sharing One:you can get 4oz from 1 plant easily IF done right ...but DWC is not easy so I recommend just 1 plant for your 1st grow or maybe even try another system until you get autoflowers dialed in ?

& like the others say ...lots of research & planning will go a long way before you start :d5: good luck & just ask if you need any help :styles rasta:

Sorry. I did copy/paste part of my introduction, but only bc I wanted to introduce myself to this particular forum. Felt like it'd be kinda bogus to start asking here without introducing myself first. Since I wanted to know specifically about hydro/dwc and lighting, I figured the Hydro forum was the right place to post next. Didn't know it was the wrong to do, so again, my apologies. I'll definitely make sure to start my journal in the New Growers Forum when I'm ready to start a grow. Just trying to get the right things before I start.

Thanks DWC and Solyent for the info and well wishes.
