Ff ocean forest and additives

Thanks alot Muddy.

Would you recemmond using the vermiculite/perlite/soil mix just in the middle of pot to start seedlings or no. Growing under led

Or just use soil/perlite

I wouldn't use the vermiculite, just soil and perlite in the middle for the seeds. Lowes should have sphagnum peat moss. I would suggest adding some of it, along with perlite, over using the MG soil if the MG soil has slow release nutrients. Also, if the perlite you have is the MG brand make sure to wash it before use. It also contains slow release nutrients.

Cmon Muddy, now your busting my balls. We used vermiculate for germing all our seeds when I was working for a greenhouse years ago.

Tested the ph of the FF i received it was spot on at 6.4 so must of got an old batch or they fixed their soil.

All i added was two cups of mycorrhizal to 48 quarts just waiting on perlite to arrive. Gave the soil a bit of water and mixed up to help activate the mycorrhizal its sitting at around 80 degrees in a dark container

And muddy its just plain perlite.

Once that arrives itll be mixed in as well.

Will also coat the hole the seed is going in with mycorrhizal as well

I always thought Vermiculite was to trace heavy and stayed to wet too sometimes in germing temps..?thats why I never used it and heard it shouldnt be used like that.can be used certainly imo,but soil n small perlite plain is prolly best imo. heck I dunno.just my thoughts lol

Muddy is right that Lowes has good peat, that's where I got my Premier Canadian sphagnum peat. Premier is the same brand as that Pro Mix lineup so ya know it's quality. The big block wasn't too much, I think it was around $13 but my memory is bad lol.

It's been my experience that vermiculite holds too much moisture for low heat lights like T5s, CFLs and LEDs. Pro Mix BX has vermiculite and under my CFL I use for veg and my LEDs I use for bloom, I can't feed as often as I like. Fine under HPS with the increased heat.

Not every Lowes carries the Premier products. Mine doesn't. I've got to travel an 80 mile round trip to get any Premier products, which is why I've switched from Pro Mix to the Bonnie Professional Potting Soil. I can get it at the local Ace Hardware for less than Pro Mix and it's starting pH is lower, 6.7 compared to 7 for Pro Mix. I can feed at 6.3 - 6.4 and my pH stays in the 6.3 - 6.6 range.

I would not use vermiculite for growing either because t holds too much moisture, but a little used to replace some hot soil just to germ the seed would be fine as long as you just kept it moist and in a warm place.Better to use seedling mix of fine ground peat to replace a little ffof in center of your pot just to get it started.

Thanks Muddy, didn't know some didn't carry it. I wonder if I could sweet talk mine into ordering some Pro Mix BX so I don't have to buy from a mystery seller on Amazon and pay outrageous shipping lol.... Off topic sorry.
