New Grower First grow starting this week - 1xNirvana Blue Mystic 1xNirvana Short Rider

Redneck CO2 works, but make sure you find the build with the "solenoid" that disallows overflow so you don't get any on your plants, because it WILL have to go ABOVE the plants as CO2 is heavier than atmospheric air.

Thanks for that tip. I'm not sure I'll even do the co2 this round...but I'll keep the overflow in mind, probably buy something eventually as I am not known for making things that work.

LOL, ditto. A big reason why I'm going to get Exhale bags...lol :)

Dolomite of lime is great for stabilising your ph in the medium. No meters required.
Just add 1 tbspn per US gallon of medium and the job is done.No more ph`ing.
Ie been using it in coco for over a year now with no probs,my tap water ph is about 7.1-7.3.
A decent ph meter is always handy to have around tho.
Good luck on your grow.

The lime...that sounds so easy! So add lime and soil ph will stay fine through out the grow? Then I'd only need to test if I see an issue. Is that right? Sounds like the way to go for ease of maintenance. Thanks for the tip!

Yesterday I went to the supply store. I decided to buy the roots organic and their line of organic nutes - Buddha Grow, Buddha Bloom, and Extreme serene. A couple of questions:

1. With all organic will I need to balance ph prior to feeding? Is this mix of soil and nutes already balanced for each other?
2. With the organinc nutes do I follow the feeding schedule from the manufacterer or do I still do 1/4 strength to start as so many people suggest - didn't know if it would be different for organic.

So now all my supplies are here and tonight I will get everything set up and start germination.!!!!

Thanks!

Yeah thats correct spike.Just mix into your medium at the dosage i said and your ph will remain constant.
It also provides Ca & Mg once your soil microherd has broken it down.
Take a look at this link http://www.growweedeasy.com/adjust-ph-organic-marijuana there is some good info
on that site.
So no need to buy ph meter or ph up & down, just now anyway, but as i said b4,handy to have ph meter, just for the
odd check now and again.
Good luck spiker.

While redrobbo's advice isn't necessarily wrong, I would strongly recommend getting a pH meter and keeping up with it from the start as you learn to grow. Knowing what's happening in your soil is a great thing as you watch the plant go through it's stages. For every grower I've seen who says they've grown for years without checking pH, I've seen 10 others with pH swings, deficiencies, and stunted plants. With properly balanced & amended soil, a healthy microherd, properly dosed organic nutrients, and water with reasonable pH & ec, it is possible to ignore pH and have a great harvest. But that's a lot of variables for a beginner to get right. I've seen too many times that someone has a plant go badly wrong in the middle of the grow and can't give us good information to help us diagnose what's going on. Again, maybe it will all just work out, but it's a small investment to be properly prepared with a meter and some organic pH up/down. Better to have it and not need it than to be scrambling around trying to learn a crash course in pH as your precious plants get sicker by the day.

Just my "My 2 cents" on the matter. Good luck, spiker!

As spiker mentioned that Money was tight,i gave him a cheaper option than buying a ph meter.I never advised him NOT to buy one,in fact i advised it was a handy thing to have, twice!! Did you read the posts?

No need to get upset. Of course I read your posts and I know you never said not to buy a meter, but you definitely indicated that it's not important:

Dolomite of lime is great for stabilising your ph in the medium. No meters required.

I'm not busting your balls, just giving my opinion that a pH meter is more than just handy to have around, and that pH is something to be checked more than every now and again. To me if you're going to spend the money to do any sort of grow, at least coughing up $20 or so for a cheap meter is really a requirement, not something you should do without. From my personal experience, simply adding dolomite lime to the soil does not mean that meters aren't required. Hell, we currently have numerous folks who have come through the Live Help thread who have already added lime and are still fighting serious pH issues. So again, I'm not saying that it's impossible to have an great grow without being too concerned with pH, but I don't think it's likely for a beginner. Autoflowers have a short lifespan and there is little room for error if you get hit with lockout problems mid-grow. Again, just my opinion and you are free to disagree and I'm completely cool with that. Not looking to spread any bad vibes here. :Sharing One:
